Story
Hi there! I'm Link, a 5-year-old, 95lb Golden Retriever, and I'm on the lookout for my forever home. 🐾 You see, I had a wonderful family who loved me very much, but as their family grew, it became harder for them to manage my special needs. I have some allergies, a particular diet, and need regular grooming, which starts to add up. My family had to make a tough decision to prioritize their growing human pack, but wanted to make sure I ended up somewhere safe. Now I'm on a new adventure to find a family that can give me all the love and care I deserve. Now before we dive in, I wanted to share a bit more about my allergies, so you can understand what I need to stay happy and healthy. You see, I'm allergic to several different things, which my adopter will get a detailed list of. One of the biggest things I'm allergic to is grass. I know, right? A dog allergic to grass! This means I can't spend much time outside because it makes me very uncomfortable. But don’t worry, I'm perfectly happy spending lots of time indoors with my humans, playing, cuddling, and just hanging out. I also have some food allergies, so I need to stick to a special limited-ingredient diet. My new family will need to keep me on this special food to make sure I don’t have any reactions. I know it sounds like a lot, but with the right care and attention, I'm just like any other happy, loving dog. My allergies just mean I need a family that understands and is familiar with managing them. In return, you'll get an amazing, loyal, and affectionate companion who will love you unconditionally. Now, let's discuss how I get along with others, whether they're furry, feline, or little humans. I really enjoy playing with my foster sister! We have a blast together, running around and having fun between our nap sessions. I think I'd love to have another doggy friend in my new home, but I'm also perfectly happy soaking up all the attention myself. Since I can't spend too much time outside because of my grass allergies, having a playmate inside would be a great way for me to stay active and entertained. While I haven't been around cats in my foster home, my previous family said I was good with them. They did mention I had a bit of a funny habit—sometimes I thought their litter box was a treat dispenser! 😅 So, with a bit of supervision, I think I could be great friends with a feline buddy too. I adore kids! I've spent time with my foster family's kids, who are 11 and 9 years old, and I love leaning in for all their pets and kisses. I also got along well with babies in my previous home. I'm gentle and loving, making me a great companion for kids of all ages. I'm a friendly and gentle giant when meeting new people! I greet new people with a tail wag and a smile. If they give me some good pets, they'll quickly become my new best friend. When it comes to going on adventures, I can hop into the car all by myself! Once I'm in, I like to lie down, but I might drool a bit because of nervousness or excitement. I’m working on feeling more comfortable during car rides, but I'm always ready for the next adventure with you. Because of my grass allergies, I can't spend too much time outside, especially on grassy trails, which means hiking might not be the best for me (even though I'd love it!). However, I'm a super well-behaved dog with excellent recall, so taking me to dog-friendly restaurants or parks where I can stay on the sidewalk is perfect. Wherever you go, I want to be right there with you! I also love a chill lifestyle. I'm happy to lie at your feet while you work or cuddle up next to you on the couch during movie time. I'm a match-your-energy kind of dog, so whether you're up and about or relaxing, I'll be right by your side. I do great on a leash, but sometimes a bunny might catch my eye and I might dart after it. Otherwise, I walk nicely and enjoy our time together. I go on walks, but we take it easy depending on how my paws are feeling that day. We mostly stay on the road with some potty breaks in the grass. After our walks, we make sure to wipe my paws to keep them from getting too itchy. When it comes to fun time, I really enjoy playing fetch! My foster family throws the ball in the house, and I bring it right back to them like a pro. It's one of my favorite games! Funnily enough though, when it comes to toys just by themselves, I’m not too interested. I prefer spending time with my humans or playing fetch over chewing on toys. We’re still figuring out how I feel about water. I haven’t had many opportunities to splash around yet, so the jury's still out on whether I'm a water lover or not. Despite my large size, I think I'd do great in an apartment, as long as I get proper exercise. I'm adaptable and just love being with my people. I’m fully potty trained, no accidents here! I’m also kennel trained, but my foster family doesn't need to use it because I'm so well-behaved. I don’t chew on anything, so you don't have to worry about your shoes or furniture. I bark when my foster sister barks, but I don’t think I’d be a big barker if I were the only dog. I just like to join in...even if I don't always know what in the world my Pyr foster sister is baring at. Maybe a grasshopper farted somewhere? I’m trusted to have free roam of the house. When my foster family leaves, I either lay by the door waiting for their return or hang out by my foster sister in her kennel. If you’re looking for a happy dog that will always show you how much he loves you, I’m your guy. You’ll see it in the way I look at you, the way my tail wags when you talk to me, and how patiently I wait for you to come home. I just want to be everywhere you are. I’ll lie on the bathroom floor and wait for you while you shower or brush your teeth. I’ll be right by your feet while you make dinner and again while you eat dinner. I’m definitely a velcro dog, and you will be my whole world. I’ll welcome your hugs and forehead kisses and all the affection you can give. Any interaction with you at all—I'm excited for it! I just love life and my time with you. I get so excited when it’s dinner time that I do little hops to show you I’m ready to eat. And when you come home from being away, I want you to know exactly how much I missed you and how thrilled I am about your return. Even with my allergies and the medicine I take twice a day, plus my special allergy-friendly food, I’m an easy dog who knows basic commands and has excellent recall. I do drool and breathe heavily when I’m nervous, but that will be the norm until I get used to my new home and routine. I’m so grateful to my foster family for taking care of me until I find my forever family. I’m a dog filled with pure joy and love, and whoever gets to take me home will be a very lucky family! 🐾❤️ Love Link
