You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Fill out an Adoption Application Since coming to MTM, Rajah has been adopted twice, and returned within a month each time. Why? She’s a big, strong, and playful girl, who came into rescue because her owner died, and her owner’s next of kin kept her outside for 2 years before surrendering her to rescue in January 2021. In those 2 years, she had minimal training and human interaction, and she became infected with heartworm. MTM provided heartworm treatment and she is now negative. Rajah’s previous adopters expected too much, too soon. The first adopters allowed their cat in immediate proximity within the first hour, and Rajah chased. Days later, it wasn’t any better. The second adopter had no other pets, and no children at home. Rajah was adjusting well to the routine and the long walks and all the attention. But, when an adult child and dog visited, Rajah got protective, so she was returned. Her perfect home would have a confident and patient owner, no children, no other animals, and a yard that is fenced in with a physical fence.  Rajah could potentially have a K9 brother or sister as long as his/her demeanor was calm and not overly exuberant or aggressive and they were introduced properly, with decompression techniques used. Rajah needs time and consistency to learn her people are trustworthy. She doesn’t have good social skills with dogs. She chases cats and other small animals. She has been with the same fosterer since April 2021. Her fosterer has other dogs, and goats. Rajah is kept separated from the other animals, and her fosterer feels Rajah doesn’t get enough time with her. Her fosterer describes Rajah as a loving, bouncy Great Dane, a "picture-perfect dog that is just beyond beautiful. Her soul and spirit are truly a rare blessing." She deserves a home where she can enjoy her own space and her own people. Rajah knows basic obedience, just needs to be reminded. She pulls at times but also knows how to walk at a heel position. She loves her zoomies but then will get excited and will jump up to face greet. Putting her in a sit and giving a calm chest rub will calm her back down. Rajah is located in Knoxville, MD. She rides great in the car. She has no issues with people approaching, but she will bark at other dogs. Going to the vet hasn’t been an issue. Grooming; she is fine with nails trims, brushing, etc. She is fine by herself, so she can be left alone while someone works. Likes: Rajah loves having her face petted and leaning in for a Dane hug. She is so attentive and eager to please. She does well in a crate, but she will sing to you if she needs a potty break, a hug or attention. Dislikes: Strangers, dogs barking at her, unpredictable people or activity Personality: Rajah is playful and loving. Her facial expression is so soft. She just wants to get and give love. Energy level: Rajah is able to be calm in a crate, but when loose she is high energy. She loves her zoomies so would do best in a fenced yard. She runs the fence barking at the goats, and the other dogs. Favorite activities: Zoomies and hugs. Good with: Calm, confident and predictable adult humans, and positive training. She likes to please. Not good with: Energetic or loud dogs or cats. She is insecure, so is not trustworthy with children. Housetrained: Yes. Crate trained: Yes. Challenges: Rajah will need to have her obedience training refreshed. She is calmest in a home with a confident owner or she will take control. She does not have good dog-to-dog social skills and she chases cats, so would do best in a home with no other pets. She has done well with calm K9's, so that is a possibility and can be explored in discussion with her current foster. Any Medical issues? Rajah is now heartworm negative! Rajah would thrive in an experienced Great Dane home that understands the importance of ongoing training to build Rajah's confidence. Being an only dog would give her the attention and the time she wants and needs to become a happy-go-lucky Dane. A fenced yard would give her the thrill of the zoomies that she so loves. Rajah may be seven years old, but she isn’t ready to slow down. A typical Dane, she will enjoy going for a walk just as much as a nap. Meeting this girl will bring a joy to your life that only a Great Dane can bring.   Application Fees, Adoption Donations and Rescue Policy: Please know that 100% of our fees and donations pay for the costs of rescuing dogs. These include, but are not limited to: pull fees from shelters, veterinary examinations, vaccinations, medications and care, microchips, neuter/spay surgeries, heartworm treatments, behavior evaluations, and foster care, as needed. Our rescue policy requires the following: Adopters must have their primary residence in one of the following states: Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, and parts of North Carolina. We will not adopt a giant breed dog to homes where the dog will have access to highly varnished hardwood steps inside the home. Any inside steps to which the dog(s) have access, must have carpeting, securely fixed stair treads, or a non-skid surface. We encourage you to remediate potential safety issues while your application is under review, prior to the home visit. Methods or devices using pain or force on the dog to control the dog, or to deter undesirable behavior is prohibited. Applications for giant breed dogs must be submitted by the property owner. Homes with children under 6 years of age will not be approved for adoption. Homes with children should have a fenced yard. Pets currently in the applicant's home must have a history of appropriate veterinary care. Veterinary records will be checked. All references must be checked before any visitation of the dog is permitted at the foster home. All family members must be present during the home visit to the applicant's home. Any dog(s) in the applicant's home must have an introductory meeting with the rescue dog being considered, before any adoption can be completed. Homes with intact dogs will not be approved for adoption. Exceptions to this policy can be found on the Adoptable Dog Page. Fill out an Adoption Application **Courtesy post located in Bel Air, MD** AleXander the Great is a wonderful boy in search of a family to call his own... a family that can show him time, love, and the attention he deserves.   HISTORY: Xander, to no fault of his own, has had to jump around a bit due to his family's financial difficulties.  When times were good he lived with his human mom, two other great danes and a chocolate lab with plenty of room to run around.  His best friend was his 7-year-old human brother.  He also spent some time with a Rover Pet-Sitter but ultimately funds ran out and is currently living in the basement of the home where he isn’t allowed upstairs. He does have the run of the yard where he does his zoomies though.                                  PERSONALITY: Xander is extremely lovable and gentle even if he forgets his size sometimes. He rarely barks except when frightened or when people/dogs pass by when he’s in the yard. Xander is smart but lacks some discipline. He needs training to be a good walker. He pulls at first but quickly settles down. Will try to dart after rabbits and squirrels. Knows to sit for food and gives his paw. Not good at coming when called except in a confined area, like our yard. He is good with children and most people. Doesn’t trust men in hats or beards. Developed a tendency to growl at strange dogs after returning from the Rover Pet Sitting. Xander has a good-natured personality and loves being cuddled, and hugged and returns the same. He has a stubborn streak when he needs to be locked in and will occasionally try to run if he isn’t tempted with a treat.  FAVORITE ACTIVITIES: WALKING and exploring. Car rides. When going for a ride he will be the first one in the vehicle. He is very good in a car. Coordination isn’t his thing and he’s no retriever. He does like to play catch me if you can with a ball, toy, or stick. Snuggling and just chilling with people. His most UN-favorite thing is being alone. He whines and whimpers. Not excessively. Again – rarely barks.  MEDICAL ISSUES: None. He was neutered a month ago and has healed well. He is up to date on all his shots and was tested for heartworm when he was neutered which was negative. All medical records will be provided. WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST KIND OF HOME: A home that can provide him with the attention he deserves. He craves affection and returns the same. He needs to be walked and have room to move around. Ideally, he needs to be included and surrounded by family members. LOCAL TN ADOPTION ONLY. The good.....He is kennel trained. Goes in very easily with treats. Will run right in if a treat is thrown in there. Will bark for a few minutes but settles. If he’s in a crate, in a room alone and he hears a lot of commotion, he will bark. If you’ve left and the house is quiet, he’s quiet. He’s great in the kennel if someone is in the same room with him though. He likes being with his people. He happily snoozes in an open kennel during the day if you’re working from home and the kennel is near your work area.Scooby is a goof! There’s not much he takes too seriously. Besides treats. Treats are serious business! He will do just about anything for a treat. Even stuff he really doesn’t want to do. But treats are life. He’s overall an easy dog that is sweet, happy, cuddly and isn’t overly energetic. He loves playing and is a bulldozer but he relaxes and naps a lot too. He doesn’t require mass amounts of exercise. He is more than happy to lounge around in bed and watch tv with his humans. The bad...He snores. It’s not quiet...He hates small dogs, if your neighbor has one he will make it his life"s mission to eradicate it. He is generally good on a leash until aforementioned small dog walks up, then he will happily chill with you while you recover from your rotator cuff repair. Perhaps there’s a touch of extra Mastiff charm in me! My past is a mystery, having trotted through several foster homes before finding myself in my current cozy abode. I’m a lover through and through, and oh, how I adore to lean! A faithful companion, I’ll stand guard with a gentle woof when visitors approach. Following your lead, I’ll wait patiently, ready to shower any newcomer with affectionate slobbers. At a majestic 135 lbs. and towering at 32 inches, I’m quite the sight to behold! And oh, how I revel in a good back scratch, leaning against you in pure bliss. Recently, the vet took a peek at a pesky skin growth on my chest, assuring us it’s nothing to fret over. My foster family has promised to have it tended to before I find my forever home with you.

Woof! I’m Timber, a big-hearted, 3-year-old Great Dane gal eagerly awaiting my forever family. My fawn coat frames a lovely face that hints at my Mastiff lineage, perhaps even a touch of English Mastiff from one of my Great Dane parents. My past is a bit of a mystery, having trotted through several foster homes before finding solace in my current foster family’s care. I’m a sweet soul, sometimes a tad shy, but always ready to shower you with love and loyalty. Protective by nature, I’ll raise a gentle bark to announce visitors, but aggression isn’t in my playbook. At 135 lbs. and 32 inches tall, you won’t need to stoop to pet me! Unfortunately, I recently had a minor hiccup with my leg, needing some extra TLC as it’s not too keen on carrying all my weight. Luckily, my leg is still functional, and the wonderful folks at MAGDRL are helping me through this phase. Bookmark my post and stay tuned for updates as I heal and regain strength. I’m Izzie, a 4.5 year old spayed merle girl. I grew up with 2 kids, 3 cats and while I didn’t live with other dogs, I am good with them. I’m a svelte girl at 108 lbs, but have a Dane’s height and am 32” at the shoulders. My foster mom calls me a COVID Dane as I grew up with folks working from home and am not crate trained. So far I’ve been really good in the house and not done anything I shouldn’t have. The one exception is I was incontinent when I arrived and while my foster parents aren’t sure if it’s because of the stress of my old family packing to move, my move to MAGDRL or if I was spayed too early, since I’ve been on Proin, I haven’t had any accidents. I’ve been with my foster parents for two weeks now and I’m starting to show my personality. I like fast walks and while I pulled at first, I’m getting better with every walk. I also prefer pavement over grass. That’s probably because I hate getting my toes wet. We went on a battlefield walk today and I so did not want to cross the stream. I also don’t want to go in the grass to do my business if the grass is wet. My foster parents have a really big yard and two really big dogs – my foster mom says they are horses. Now that I’ve been here a bit, I’m starting to be trusted to be off leash and I’m getting the opportunity to have my zoomies. Mom did catch me rubbing my face in the stall sawdust, so she really keeps a close eye on me when we go to look for fly masks in the pasture that the horses have rubbed off so I don’t rub my face in horse poo. Since I don’t like getting wet, this would be very bad as I’d have to get a bath and no one would be happy. I’m also still shy around new folks and situations. Since I’ve gotten here and because I’m good in the car, I’ve gotten to go to the feed store for grain-free food, Home Depot and the fire station for their monthly meeting. I don’t approach people, they can pet me, but I walk away quickly and look for one of my foster parents. I’m also still a bit unsure of my surroundings, so I definitely want to be in the same room as my foster parents, especially Mom. If she goes to the barn without me, I’ll look out the windows and whine until she comes back. But if they leave the house, I’m not waiting at the window for them when they get home. I’ve not shown much interest in toys or dog beds so far preferring to nap on rugs and, if allowed on the couch. I have tried to “puppy eye” my way into the bed, but haven’t been successful – so far. My other play is to put my head on Mom’s desk or the dinner table to see if I can get a treat or some extra pets. I’ve been successful getting the pets, but not treats – yet. I’m also a “good sleeper” I like to go to bed around 9:30 and will stare at my foster parents until they get the message. I’ll wake up around 7:00 to go out, but will go back to bed if my foster parents want to sleep in. Coming from an active household, and still having lots of energy, I’d like to live with an active family that helps me keep my svelte physique.

In need of an urgent re-home for our Great Dane mix, Hugo due to family circumstances/move. Hugo is extremely sweet and very loyal to his family, but is usually fearful of new people, animals, and places. He would do best with an adult household who has all the time (and ideally a little land) to allow Hugo to settle in. Patience will be required but in return you will get a handsome, loyal companion for life. Hugo is such a sweet giant baby! He deserves a home with plenty of space to roam and play, and lots of love and attention.
