Story
Onyx is a young Great Dane with a big heart, a playful spirit, and just the right amount of goofiness to keep you smiling. At around a year old, she’s still very much a puppy in a giant body, learning about the world one new experience at a time. She absolutely loves other dogs and truly thrives with a confident canine companion by her side. Whether it’s a game of tug, a backyard zoomie session, or learning how to fetch from her housemates, Onyx lights up when she has a dog friend to show her the ropes. She tends to play a bit big, so a home with another medium to large dog would be the best fit. Onyx is affectionate and loves being close to her people. Once she’s had her playtime, she’s more than happy to curl up and lean into you for some quiet time. She’s also a smart girl who already knows “sit,” “kennel,” and her name, and is working on adding more skills like “off” and even a high-five. She’s doing great with her routine and is well on her way with house training, with only a couple of accidents as she continues to learn her cues. She sleeps well in her crate overnight and is getting more comfortable settling during the day, especially when she has a calm environment or another dog nearby. Like many young dogs, Onyx is still building confidence. New environments, people, and especially leash walks can feel overwhelming, and she may bark or react when she’s unsure. With time, patience, and continued training, she is already showing progress and learning that new things aren’t so scary. Onyx would do best in a home that can provide structure, consistency, and continued positive reinforcement training. She’ll also need regular exercise and enrichment to keep both her body and mind engaged. A fenced yard and a playful dog buddy would make her especially happy. If you’re looking for a loyal, playful, slightly clumsy best friend who will grow with you and keep life interesting, Onyx is ready to bring a whole lot of love into your home. At Green Dogs Unleashed (GDU), we are dedicated to ensuring the successful placement of our dogs in loving, permanent homes. Over the years, we have seen an increasing number of returns due to behavioral issues that could have been prevented with the right support. A significant percentage of these returns involve out-of-area clients or those who have not completed training with GDU. To address this, positive reinforcement training with Green Dogs Unleashed is required as a condition for all adoptions. Preference for this dog will be given to adopters who commit to signing up for and completing our six-week Canine 101 training class in person at our headquarters in Troy, VA. Secondary consideration will be given to a limited number of out-of-area adopters who agree to complete one private lesson with GDU, either in person or virtually, and attend a pre-approved positive reinforcement training class in their area. At the time you are seeing this post, this dog is still available for adoption. But please know that we may be working on multiple applications already, and any one of them could be approved at any time. Please READ THIS ENTIRE DESCRIPTION and complete an adoption application, if you are interested in any of our animals. Application at www.greendogsunleashed.org If you send an inquiry to ask if the dog is still available, or just tell us you are interested, your inquiry will not be answered. FILL OUT AN APPLICATION. We can do NOTHING without that. No, we cannot tell you if he would be a match for your family without seeing an application. PLEASE KEEP READING for info. */*/* PLEASE NOTE: The first communication you will receive after completing an application will be an email response, which will have instructions on how to proceed. Please check your inbox AND spam folders for the next 48 hours, for this email. We will not begin processing an application without the information requested in that email. */*/* We are happy to consider applicants from out of state on most dogs. Please read the description to see if this dog is an exception. If the applicant is approved to adopt, they MUST be willing to come to our location in Troy, VA, for a meet and greet. If all parties agree that the pup and family are a good fit, they would take the pup home at that time. For more information about our mission and for an APPLICATION for adoption, please go to www.greendogsunleashed.com. GDU does ask a minimum adoption fee of $400.00. This does not even come close to covering all expenses created by animals while in rescue. We are funded solely by the angels and volunteers willing to donate time and finances. This minimum fee includes DAPP, rabies if age appropriate,, heartworm test and preventative, if age appropriate, and flea and tick treatment, as well as neutering or spaying, if the animal is medically sound to undergo surgery. In an attempt to avoid tummy upset from a sudden change of food, the foster family may include a small, transitional bag of the food the dog/puppy has been eating. And if the dog/puppy has grown attached to a special item (like a toy or blanket), they may send that along, as well. */*/* Young puppies will receive age-appropriate vaccines, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Adopters may be required to provide additional puppy boosters and at 16 weeks of age, a rabies vaccine. Future annual vaccines, testing and monthly heartworm preventative are REQUIRED, and will be the financial responsibility of the adopter. *****Due to the sheer number of animals and applications in our program, coupled with a limited number of volunteers, applicants MUST have patience as we process applications.   If you do not hear back from us, the animal may have been adopted.   We strive to let people know but sadly cannot offer reasons for denial beyond that.  Any harassment of our volunteers will go unanswered and we will simply block you.   Our volunteers spend their time working hard to ensure the very best for each animal.   Please remember the animal, not the applicant, is our client.*****  ##2713282##

Story
Meet Craig, a dog who is quite literally larger than life! While his majestic size might turn heads on the sidewalk, anyone who spends five minutes with him learns the truth: Craig is just a massive, sweet-natured mush who has absolutely no idea he isn't a Chihuahua. Craig is the ultimate "gentle giant." He moves through the world with a calm, easygoing grace and wants nothing more than to be a central part of a loving family. Craig is a true social butterfly who gets along with just about everyone in the household, no matter how big or small: Craig has a heart of gold when it comes to children. He is patient, gentle, and loves being the designated protector and playmate for his human siblings. Whether it's a fellow canine buddy or a curious feline, Craig is an absolute gentleman. He gets along with other dogs and respects boundaries, and comfortably coexist with cats. Don't let his size fool you—Craig doesn't need a grueling exercise routine. His perfect day consists of a nice, leisurely stroll to stretch his long legs, followed by a massive nap. Craig’s favorite pastime is trying to fit his entire body onto the couch next to you (or directly on your lap) for movie night. If you have room in your house—and a couch large enough—for a giant soul with an even bigger heart, Craig is ready to bring a lifetime of loyalty and love to your family. Ready to welcome this big sweetie home? Come meet Craig today!

Story
Meet George: A Survivor Ready for a Second Chance & Loves to Cuddle! George didn't have the easiest start. Found as a stray, he was so hungry that he survived on anything he could find—even sauce packets (found in his stomach during his neuter). But those days of starvation are behind him. Though he’s still working on reaching his goal weight, his spirit is bigger than his frame. He is a social butterfly at doggy daycare and gets along great with non-dominant dogs. Because of his history, he’s currently a "student" in training, learning that he never has to worry about his next meal again. He’s looking for a patient family who will celebrate his progress and offer him the unconditional love he’s been searching for. Now that he is in a foster home he is settling in nicely, enjoys his mid-day dog walker and is completely trustworthy left out of a crate. He's ready to be a great addition to any family who's ready to love him. Update: Since being in his foster home, Sequoia, who now goes by George, has shown to be house broken, a couch potato, and knows some commands. This beautiful brindle boy loves sitting on the porch or going on walks and does great while wearing his Gentle Leader. He is very friendly to everyone he meets (old and young) and especially loves smelling leaves on trees or bushes. He is also a good car traveler. George would sit in your lap all day if you let him -- he is a huge cuddle bug and very loving Dane.
