Story
Meet Star! Star is a 10 year old Pyrenees/Hound mix. Star is a super sweet girl. She is house trained and does well with older kids. She needs an active family that keep her busy and exercised. Star needs a home with NO cats, and this pretty little lady prefers the company of male dogs only. If you would like to make this sweet girl a part of your family, fill out an application at www.barktownrescue.org. STAR'S ADOPTION FEE IS $100The shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only guessing at the dog's predominant breed or breed mix. We strongly encourage you to select your new pet by looking at each dog's individual personality and pet qualities rather than relying on a breed label that is only our best guess.    Our adoption fees vary from $150 and up.  All of our dogs are up to date on vaccines, heart worm preventives, and flea/tick medication, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Portions of your adoption fee also help care for the sick and injured animals that we take in.  Thank you for supporting us and considering a rescue dog!    April 29, 2024, 2:25 pm

Story
Meet Po! Po is 6 months old. He is a pretty laid back puppy and loves to get attention. He is a little timid, so he needs time to warm up, especially to other dogs. His breed can be difficult, so early training is important, and also you MUST have a good way to contain them, as they are known to roam. A Pyrenees is probably best for someone experienced with this breed or similar breeds. If you would like make Po a part of your family, fill out an application at Www.barktownrescue.org    PO'S ADOPTIOM FEE IS $200The shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Story
'I'm Chief and I'm looking for a new home. My owners couldn't keep me so they brought me here because they knew the Humane Society would work hard to find a good home for me. I would love to meet you if you have a few minutes.' The adoption fee for dogs is $95. This includes spaying/neutering, fecal test and worming, rabies, and parvo/distemper vaccinations. You can find the link to our adoption application at the bottom of this page. Thank you to Margaret Wainscott who has donated a portion of my adoption fee I can  now go home at a reduced rate ! Did you know that even if you can't adopt this pet, you can still help him/her get a home of his/her own? And all it takes is a tax-deductible donation of $10-$20! If you don't have room in your home, but do have room in your heart, you could sponsor this animal. This means you pay part of the adoption fee, making it possible for them to be adopted much sooner.
