Story
Deja is amazing in a home environment; she is very calm and loves spending time on the couch. She will paw at people for attention and belly rubs. She gets along very well with cats, and is very gentle and will mind her own business. She will be most comfortable in a home without children, as she is very nervous and reactive to quick movements. She can also be uncomfortable if someone she doesn't know well invades her space. We have been working on leash training with Deja, and she has improved quite a bit, although she can be reactive towards other dogs, and sometimes towards children.

Story
Smudge / Male / 1 year 8 months / 58 pounds / Mixed Breed / Good With Dogs with Proper Intros / Likely Good with Cats / Likely Good with Kids / Cuddle Buddy / From Tennessee / Fostered in Scarborough Meet Smudge! Smudge was pulled from an overcrowded Tennessee shelter in the nick of time and has since made his trip north hoping to find his forever home. This perfect southern gentleman is described by his foster as gentle, sweet, playful, friendly, and affectionate. Smudge enjoys most activities but loves playing with his toys, playing fetch, and cuddling! He also loves to just sit beside his human on the grass and roll on his back hoping for a tummy rub. Smudge is still getting used to his surroundings and can be fearful of loud noises. He will stop what he is doing to observe his surroundings and once he’s comfortable he will continue on. Smudge likes slow introductions to new people and likes to give them a good sniff before he goes in for pets or other contact. Smudge has not met any children since being in foster care but given his loving nature we believe he would do well with dog savvy children who can respect his space. Smudge is medium energy and currently gets two walks a day around 30 minutes. He also loves playing in the backyard, working on his fetch game, and a good food puzzle or snuffle mat. Smudge walks well on leash but does pull and will need continued training and guidance. He gets very excited when he sees other dogs and wants to play with everyone. He can be redirected with a delicious treat but his adopter will need to continue working on this with him. He is more comfortable on quieter streets. Smudge is very interested in other dogs but sometimes his energy can be too much. His adopter will need to make sure Smudge is polite during introductions and that he takes breaks to calm himself around other dogs. Smudge loved living with other dogs at the rescue in Tennessee and we believe Smudge could join a home with another dog as long as that dog does not mind lots of energy and play. Smudge currently lives with a cat and has had only brief introductions. He is very interested in the cat and gets a bit excited but can be easily redirected. Smudge could live with a cat as long as his adopter is prepared to ensure proper introductions are made and supervision is provided. Smudge is great in the house and has been left alone for several hours without issue. He is crated overnight and settles quickly and sleeps through the night. Smudge is learning basic obedience and is food motivated, which helps. He is working on potty training and is very close to perfect but may experience an adjustment when he moves homes. Though Smudge's past is a bit of a mystery, his knowledge of basic obedience and friendliness suggest he may have once had a home. Smudge is suitable for any type of home, including condos/apartments due to his calm demeanor and quiet nature, as long as his physical needs are met. He prefers to be in a quiet neighbourhood. With continued training and his eager-to-please attitude, this handsome boy will make an incredible addition to any family. Smudge’s new family will need to be committed to continuing to work with him on all the basics. Everything from crate training, potty training, walking like a pro on leash. His family should expect to offer multiple opportunities per day to walk, play, and provide mental enrichment as Smudge learns how to live the good life in Canada. Story
Introducing our lovable furry friend! This charming pup is a people-person through and through—ready to soak up all the pets and attention from anyone, including strangers! However, when it comes to little ones, sudden movements and loud noises can startle him a bit. If children are calm and gentle, he's happy to hang out. Although he's not a fan of being carried or lifted up, he's a big fan of canine companions, especially smaller or similar-sized dogs. He's a true protector, but only when needed—stepping up if other dogs are too rowdy or aggressive. Birds? Squirrels? They definitely catch his eye during walks, but with a bit of leash training, he's working on his focus. In terms of energy, he's got the perfect balance—loving outdoor adventures but a total zen master indoors. While he might tug a little on walks, once he settles, he's an excellent leash follower. Busy streets can be overwhelming, so quieter spots are more his style. No guarding resources from people, but he might issue a gentle growl if other dogs get too close. When it's time to travel, he prefers a cozy crate in the car—helping ease those nerves and avoiding any car sickness. One thing's for sure—he's a potty pro outdoors only! Basic commands like sit, stay, paw, and eye contact? Nailed it! And did we mention he's a sucker for ice cubes? If you're ready to welcome this gentle giant into your heart and home, reach out to our team today to make him a part of your family!
