Story
Katy Pawry had a rough start to life. She spent her days living on a chain until one day she broke free and escaped. Now she is discovering what it feels like to be safe, loved and part of a family - and she is absolutely blossoming. Katy Pawry is doing wonderfully in the house and is learning all about being a cherished family dog. She loves to be loved on and is perfectly happy curling up on the couch and relaxing with her people. Her personality is coming out more and more each day, and her foster family is getting to see what a truly special girl she is. Katy Pawry has started playing with toys and LOVES playing with other dogs. She currently lives with six dogs and a cat and interacts beautifully with all of them. Her two closest playmates are a Cocker Spaniel and a Chiweenie, and she can often be found happily racing around the yard playing with her friends. She is wonderful with kids, gets along with dogs and cats, rides well in the car and has no destructive habits. Katy is still working on potty training and learning to confidently go into her kennel, but once she is inside, she settles beautifully. She is a happy, affectionate girl who is finally learning that life can be good. We think Katy would especially thrive in a home with another friendly dog who can show her the ropes, keep her company and give her a playmate, although another dog is not a requirement. After everything Katy has been through, she deserves a family who will continue to show her how wonderful life can be. She is very close to being the perfect dog - and the best part is, she is just getting started. Crate size recommended: 42 inch Good with adults: Yes Good with kids: Yes Good with other dogs: Yes Good with cats: Yes, Katy currently lives with a cat and simply ignores him House trained: Working on potty training Crate trained: Learning to go into her kennel and does great once she is inside Energy level: Medium, playful, inquisitive and happy Can be handled/touched: Yes, she is loving and enjoys affection Barker: Yes, but not excessively. Story
Honey's journey has been filled with heartbreak, but through it all she has remained incredibly sweet, gentle, and trusting. She was found wandering the streets of Longview, Texas as a young puppy, skinny, covered in fleas, and suffering from worms. After receiving the medical care and love she needed, Honey was adopted into what everyone hoped would be her forever home. Sadly, that family failed her. When Honey escaped the neglect she was living in and was picked up by Animal Control, her adopter simply said she didn't want her anymore and told them to take her to the shelter. Thankfully, Honey was microchipped to our rescue. Once Animal Control scanned her chip, they contacted us instead, saving Honey from entering the shelter system once again. She returned to her foster home where she finally felt safe. Later, when her foster's circumstances changed, Honey and her best friend Beau were left behind. As soon as our rescue learned what had happened, we immediately picked them up and welcomed them back into our care. Today Honey is a wonderful companion. She is affectionate, house and crate trained, walks beautifully on leash, rides well in the car, and loves both adults and children. She gets along well with other dogs and occasionally lets out the adorable Pyrenees howl that makes everyone smile. Honey has every reason not to trust people, yet she continues to love with her whole heart. All she wants now is a family that will keep their promise to love her forever. She has waited long enough for the happy ending she truly deserves. Crate size recommended: 42" Good with adults: Yes Good with kids: Yes Good with other dogs: Yes Good with cats: Unknown House trained: Yes, with a dog door Crate trained: Yes Energy level: Medium Personality: Gentle and friendly Can be handled/touched: Yes Barker: No, but she does enjoy the occasional Great Pyrenees howl. Story
Health Issues - Initially came into rescue with dermatitis, but that has been resolved. Temperament - In general a very friendly & affectionate dog, especially within his inner circle. - Bear can be very excitable when he sees people coming his way. He presents his excitement by jumping and mouthing. Although learning to settle down before getting the attention he seeks, his size and weight of 140 lbs can be intimidating. - Bear thrives on attention, so much so that he does not always like when the attention is being removed. He is known to grab you to stop you from going. - Bear is motivated by treats more so than his regular food. - True to the Great Pyrenees breed, Bear has guarding tendencies of his space and his food, which can be unpredictable especially around new people. - Bear walks well on leash. But on occasion will pull should he see something of interest to him. - Bear rides well in a car. - Due to his sheltered upbringing, he does not lunge, but can get overwhelmed and tenses up when he encounters unfamiliar things close up. For example, he has been introduced to a horse and bicycles passing him on a trail. But, he settles down relatively quickly when distracted. - Bear overall appears to be indifferent towards other dogs unless being taunted by reactive dogs in which case he will initially match their energy, but then disengages. He has participated in calm pack walks well. He has not had the opportunity yet, but has shown interest in engaging playfully with other calm dogs. - Given the opportunity, Bear is happy to adjust to the comforts of a couch! Owner Suitability - Needs an owner with experience with large working dog breeds and will be a constant dominant presence in his life, reinforcing positive behaviour with consistent training. - Needs owner to have patience as he learns to trust his new environment and the boundaries set out for him. - Best suited to live with someone who works out of their home, or is retired. - Would benefit from a quiet lifestyle. - Consistent people in his life will make it easier for Bear. Although he loves meeting new people, a high traffic home with too many strangers, will most likely bring out his guarding tendencies. - Must have a fenced in yard. - Best suited to a large property, preferably in the country, with access to inside and out with suitable shelter. - Not suitable for a home with children due to his food aggression.
