Story
To be considered for adopting a dog from Canine Lifeline, you must have an approved application must be on file. Please visit http://www.caninelifeline.org/adoption-process/ for more information about our adoption process and to submit an online application.   Meet Dixie, a 3 year-old girl who looks like she might have some Beagle in her family tree. She’s a true Heinz-57 as she weighs about 40 pounds and has really pretty black and tan markings. Dixie was surrendered to a county dog shelter by her family who could no longer take care of her in their apartment. She is very friendly with people and while her previous owners said she was dog-friendly, we have found that she can be very particular about her dog friends. Dixie is definitely a dominant dog around other dogs and will befriend another dog as long as it is on her own terms. The other dog must respect that Dixie is going to be the boss and not challenge her over a toy or other prized possession.  Dixie LOVES toys and has a favorite stuffed football that she is especially fond of. She has had excellent crate manners since she’s been with us and may be housetrained too although we can’t promise that she won’t have an accident or two as she adjusts to her new home. Dixie seems to have had no experience on a leash when she first came to us as she is extremely strong and will pull very hard. We have been working with her on an Easy Walk harness and she does better but can still become reactive when she sees another dog.  Dixie would do best in a home that has a yard with a privacy fence so she could run and play to her heart's content. A home in a rural area or quiet neighborhood where she wouldn't meet a lot of other dogs daily would be best for her. Dixie can also be quite vocal when excited so a busy urban or suburban setting would probably be too much for her. In the right environment and with some continued obedience training, Dixie will make a very loyal and devoted companion. Dixie weighs about 40 pounds and her adoption fee is $250. She’s spayed, heartworm negative and on monthly preventative, up to date on vaccinations, wormed, on flea and tick preventative, and microchipped. As part of the adoption process, all adopters must commit to a two-week adjustment period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized. Please email info@caninelifeline.org if you’re interested in Dixie. An approved application is required before we schedule meets with any of our dogs. Please note that we don’t place our dogs in homes with children under 7 years of age. We correspond via email so please check your junkmail or spam folder to make sure our reply hasn’t landed in there. Story
To be considered for adopting a dog from Canine Lifeline, you must have an approved application must be on file. Please visit http://www.caninelifeline.org/adoption-process/ for more information about our adoption process and to submit an online application.   This cute little 1 year-old gent is Lincoln, a tri-colored mix of perhaps Beagle, Jack Russell Terrier, and Dachshund. He was found as a stray in a rural area so we have no info as to his pre-shelter life or true breed mix. Lincoln wasn’t claimed at the shelter so he made the trip to Canine Lifeline so he could take his time finding the perfect new home. The trip up to us was stressful to Lincoln and he needed a day or two to relax and realize that he was among friends now and there was nothing to worry about. Lincoln will be shy at first when going to a new home but he adjusted beautifully in his foster home after only a few days. He’s fine with his foster mom picking him up and has even given a couple of kisses on occasion. Once he's comfortable with someone, he's definitely a lap dog! It does take Lincoln time to trust new people though. Until he feels comfortable with someone new, if a new person he doesn't know reaches out to pet him or try to pick him up, he is likely to bite. Lincoln needs a very dog-experienced adopter who understands how to manage fearful dogs and will give him the space he needs to feel comfortable in a new environment. He wouldn't do well in an apartment or busy urban/suburban neighborhood where he would be encountering new people on a daily basis. Lincoln gets along well with other dogs so might benefit from having a confident canine buddy his size in his new home to help show him the ropes. We think he would be happiest in a quiet home with one or two adults and without children where he could truly relax and make himself at home. A home in quiet area with a yard that has a secure aboveground fence would be ideal for him. Lincoln walks nicely on a leash, keeps his crate spotless, and may be housetrained too although we can’t guarantee that he won’t have an accident or two as he gets used to his environment. It’s frightening to think of what Lincoln might have endured during his days as a stray in the big wide world all alone but with lots of patience, love, and reassurance, he will soon put those scary days in the past and be living his very best life in his new home. Lincoln weighs about 16 pounds and his adoption fee is $350. He’s neutered, heartworm negative and on monthly preventative, up to date on vaccinations, wormed, on flea and tick preventative, and microchipped. As part of the adoption process, all adopters must commit to a two-week adjustment period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized. We correspond via email so please check your junkmail or spam folder to make sure our reply hasn’t landed in there. Lincoln is available for adoption to a local Northeast OH home only.June 1, 2023, 12:46 pm
