Story
To be considered for adopting a dog from Canine Lifeline, you must have an approved application must be on file. Please visit http://www.caninelifeline.org/adoption-process/ for more information about our adoption process and to submit an online application.   Meet Dixie, a 3 year-old girl who looks like she might have some Beagle in her family tree. She’s a true Heinz-57 as she weighs about 40 pounds and has really pretty black and tan markings. Dixie was surrendered to a county dog shelter by her family who could no longer take care of her in their apartment. She is very friendly with people and while her previous owners said she was dog-friendly, we have found that she can be very particular about her dog friends. Dixie is definitely a dominant dog around other dogs and will befriend another dog as long as it is on her own terms. The other dog must respect that Dixie is going to be the boss and not challenge her over a toy or other prized possession.  Dixie LOVES toys and has a favorite stuffed football that she is especially fond of. She has had excellent crate manners since she’s been with us and may be housetrained too although we can’t promise that she won’t have an accident or two as she adjusts to her new home. Dixie seems to have had no experience on a leash when she first came to us as she is extremely strong and will pull very hard. We have been working with her on an Easy Walk harness and she does better but can still become reactive when she sees another dog.  Dixie would do best in a home that has a yard with a privacy fence so she could run and play to her heart's content. A home in a rural area or quiet neighborhood where she wouldn't meet a lot of other dogs daily would be best for her. Dixie can also be quite vocal when excited so a busy urban or suburban setting would probably be too much for her. In the right environment and with some continued obedience training, Dixie will make a very loyal and devoted companion. Dixie weighs about 40 pounds and her adoption fee is $250. She’s spayed, heartworm negative and on monthly preventative, up to date on vaccinations, wormed, on flea and tick preventative, and microchipped. As part of the adoption process, all adopters must commit to a two-week adjustment period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized. Please email info@caninelifeline.org if you’re interested in Dixie. An approved application is required before we schedule meets with any of our dogs. Please note that we don’t place our dogs in homes with children under 7 years of age. We correspond via email so please check your junkmail or spam folder to make sure our reply hasn’t landed in there. Story
To be considered for adopting a dog from Canine Lifeline, you must have an approved application must be on file. Please visit http://www.caninelifeline.org/adoption-process/ for more information about our adoption process and to submit an online application.   This cute little 1 year-old gent is Lincoln, a tri-colored mix of perhaps Beagle, Jack Russell Terrier, and Dachshund. He was found as a stray in a rural area so we have no info as to his pre-shelter life or true breed mix. Lincoln wasn’t claimed at the shelter so he made the trip to Canine Lifeline so he could take his time finding the perfect new home. The trip up to us was stressful to Lincoln and he needed a day or two to relax and realize that he was among friends now and there was nothing to worry about. Lincoln will be shy at first when going to a new home but he adjusted beautifully in his foster home after only a few days. He’s fine with his foster mom picking him up and has even given a couple of kisses on occasion. Once he's comfortable with someone, he's definitely a lap dog! It does take Lincoln time to trust new people though. Until he feels comfortable with someone new, if a new person he doesn't know reaches out to pet him or try to pick him up, he is likely to bite. Lincoln needs a very dog-experienced adopter who understands how to manage fearful dogs and will give him the space he needs to feel comfortable in a new environment. He wouldn't do well in an apartment or busy urban/suburban neighborhood where he would be encountering new people on a daily basis. Lincoln gets along well with other dogs so might benefit from having a confident canine buddy his size in his new home to help show him the ropes. We think he would be happiest in a quiet home with one or two adults and without children where he could truly relax and make himself at home. A home in quiet area with a yard that has a secure aboveground fence would be ideal for him. Lincoln walks nicely on a leash, keeps his crate spotless, and may be housetrained too although we can’t guarantee that he won’t have an accident or two as he gets used to his environment. It’s frightening to think of what Lincoln might have endured during his days as a stray in the big wide world all alone but with lots of patience, love, and reassurance, he will soon put those scary days in the past and be living his very best life in his new home. Lincoln weighs about 16 pounds and his adoption fee is $350. He’s neutered, heartworm negative and on monthly preventative, up to date on vaccinations, wormed, on flea and tick preventative, and microchipped. As part of the adoption process, all adopters must commit to a two-week adjustment period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized. Please email info@caninelifeline.org if you’re interested in Lincoln. An approved application is required before we schedule meets with any of our dogs.
Oakley is a real character! This two-year old’s breed mix is truly a mystery. It looks like he may have some Beagle in his family tree but the shape of his face is clearly different. Maybe some Jack Russel or other mystery breeds in his DNA? Your guess is as good as ours. A DNA test would certainly prove very interesting for him! Oakley was living in a dangerous situation where he was allowed to run loose. Fortunately, his owner surrendered him to another rescuer so he could get the chance to live a safe and happy life where he would not be neglected. From there, he made the trip to Canine Lifeline so he could relax in a foster home while searching for a great new home. Oakley is quite an active little guy. He’s very athletic and can jump like he’s filled with jumping beans. Oakley can climb out of a 3 foot tall pen so will need a tall fence in his new home or to be kept on a leash at all times. He gets very excited about toys of all kinds and is super food-motivated. Oakley does well with other dogs so would likely enjoy having an energetic canine buddy to pal around with in his new home. For an active young dog, he settles down amazingly well in his crate. He loves curling up on a cozy blanket for a nap when playtime is over and keeps his crate spotless. Oakley will likely pick up the house-training rules quickly in his new home. He would excel with an active person or family who is looking for a little walking, jogging, or hiking buddy. Oakley definitely has the stamina to keep up with the big dogs and is looking forward to a home where he can have lots of fun adventures and live his life as a treasured family member. He weighs about 19 pounds and his adoption fee is $350. He’s neutered, heartworm negative and on monthly preventative, up to date on vaccinations, wormed, on flea and tick preventative, and microchipped. As part of the adoption process, all adopters must commit to a two-week adjustment period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized. No mistaking this solid guy for a his little yellowbird namesake. Woodstock has the nose of a Beagle and the heart of an American bulldog. He can often be found hopping around the play yard, throwing a toy in the air so he can chase after it and giving his belly up to all his friends. He's a rock star in our playgroup and loves everyone he meets. Despite his playful tendencies, Woodstock's sweet demeanor and stout size make him the best cuddle buddy and walking companion. Woodstock is a fan favorite and would make an exceptional family dog, he is truly in love with life and very sweet mannered. Due to how -AWESOME- he is, we're hoping he can get a little foster break from the shelter and shack up with some bffs! If you're interested in possibly hanging out with him for some sunshine time, email us today at foster@cuyahogacounty.us.

Story
To be considered for adopting a dog from Canine Lifeline, you must have an approved application must be on file. Please visit http://www.caninelifeline.org/adoption-process/ for more information about our adoption process and to submit an online application.   Frank is a very sweet 3-4 year-old Beagle/Doxie mix neutered male who came to us from a rural county dog shelter after having been pulled from a hoarding situation in which there were 66 dogs living in the home. Frank along with many of his buddies tested positive for heartworms at the overwhelmed shelter so Canine Lifeline pulled Frank along with 8 of his pals so they could get the lifesaving treatment that they needed here with us. We’re happy to report that Frank has completed his series of three immiticide injections to kill the adult heartworms and has been doing very well during his recuperation period in his foster home. He had no complications during his treatment and adjusted well to crate rest and short leash walks as prescribed.  Frank “the Tank” is not only admirably resilient, but has maintained the kindest soul throughout all of his perils. There are so many things about Frank that make him an “easy” dog. He is wonderful in his crate, has had very few accidents in the house, and is the QUIETEST dog I’ve ever encountered. When he has had to be left alone for crate rest or while I’m at work, he has never protested or made a peep. He does not require a ton of exercise or attention to be happy, just a comfy couch and a warm lap he can sit on daily to receive affection. He gets along well with every dog we’ve met, even showing remarkable tolerance and restraint with his bully-of-a-chihuahua foster brother. With that said, Frank is still a dog that, after having lived his entire life outdoors with 66 other dogs, is learning to adjust to a new world of “scary” sights, sounds, and people. He will need owners who are patient and most importantly CAREFUL. Although never aggressive, Frank is very skittish with new people and likely will not be a dog that “shines” in a meet-and-greet because he may act very timid.  Once Frank is comfortable with someone, he is a completely different dog…a silly, carefree, affectionate boy who greets you with kisses galore and will literally leap onto your lap for more cuddles…but it may take him a week or so to open up to his new owner(s). He is absolutely WORTH the wait and I guarantee once he trusts you, you will experience unmatched love and loyalty. Having a friendly, confident dog in the house would be great for helping to show Frank the ropes, but I believe he could also be very happy as an only dog as long as his owners are patient with him and give him lots of couch cuddles. Because of Frank’s skittishness, he has proven to be a “flight risk” and that is why it is EXTREMELY important that whoever adopts him does not give him any opportunities to slip out of a cracked door or be off leash outside. Frank will RUN if he gets loose and he is FAST. He does not respond well to being clipped to a tie-out line, so he will either need a fenced in yard or an owner dedicated to taking him outside on a leash for potty breaks. He walks great on a leash but occasionally becomes “spooked” and will try to thrash his head around to escape, so he should never be walked using a normal collar/leash. A leash attached to a harness is recommended, or at the very least, a well-fit martingale collar or slip lead so that there is no way he can break or slip out of the collar and start running. All-in-all, Frank has been incredibly easy to care for and has grown to show me so much love and trust. He greets me more enthusiastically than my own dogs and, although he could still benefit from learning some basic obedience and food manners (he loves people food!), he really is a dream dog who will continue to blossom in a loving home. Frank weighs about 20 pounds and his adoption fee is $300. He’s neutered, on monthly heartworm preventative, up to date on vaccinations including bivalent canine influenza, wormed, on flea and tick preventative, and microchipped. As part of the adoption process, all adopters must commit to a two-week adjustment period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized. Please email info@caninelifeline.org if you’re interested in Frank. An approved application is required before we schedule meets with any of our dogs. Please note that we don’t place our dogs in homes with children under 7 years of age. Say hello to Nubbs! He is an 11 year old Beagle/Bulldog mix who weighs 40 pounds. Nubbs is a very laid-back boy who definitely enjoys a slow paced lifestyle. He enjoys going for walks and exploring outside, but he is always ready for a nap afterwards. He enjoys spending time with those closest to him, but he has no problem enjoying his independent time as well. Nubbs shows potential to live in a home with another dog as well. Since he is such a social pup, he could live with children ages 10 and older. If Nubbs looks like the pup for you, give us a call at 330-487-0333 ext 226 to learn more about him and schedule a time to come in and meet!

Story
Viktor is currently fostered in Mentor Ohio, and his adoption fee/donation is $150 Update 10/4/2021 Viktor was seen at a Behavior clinic and is on medication for his anxiety issues and not being able to be leashed. His foster said he is making progress with wearing a leash but it is slow going. He is doing well with the other dogs in the foster home. Victor update 4/23/2020 Viktor Requires a fenced yard with direct access from the living area Victor has really settled down A LOT in his foster home!! In fact he has really bonded with one of his foster fur brothers (Jasper) The two of them have become like peas and carrots!! They do everything TOGETHER! Sleep together, play, run, chase, practically attached at the hip. We are so impressed with how well he is doing. However we recently had him stay with a different foster home for a day or two, just to see how he did away from his normal environment, and away from Jasper. We wanted to test him, and see if he was ok, and not revert back to the old “FERAL VICTOR” Well unfortunately he reverted back to acting extremely feral in the new foster home. He would not allow anyone in the house to touch him, he constantly ran away from any and all human interaction. He would find a corner to hide in and just shake and tremble for hours. Once they were able to get him outside in a fenced yard, he kept running around the yard, trying to get away, and it took over an hour to get him back in the house. Victor CANNOT be leashed to this day. If his foster tries to put a leash on him, he freaks out, and pulls, thrashes trying to escape his collar to get away. After trying the different environment, we had to get him back to his original foster, we couldn’t let him be freaked out like he was any longer. Once he was back “HOME” he went right back to being his happy self, and was SO HAPPY to be back with his Buddy Jasper!!! He is going to need a very experienced, special adopter, one that has a SECURED fenced in yard, this is a MUST, there are NO EXCEPTIONS!!! They will need to have at least one or two other dogs for him to bond with, as he cant handle being an only dog, because of his feral background. The best case scenario for victor, would be to get adopted along with his buddy jasper (2 yr cocker spaniel special needs). It would be the best possible home for him, but we realize this is not an easy thing to do, it is our wish though, that this could happen for both of them. Original Bio Hi there, My name is Viktor, I am a beagle mix of some sort, and I am only 2 yr old. I had a rough start in life, I was born in the wild to feral mother dog, and the animal warden had to trap me to catch me!!! I was so fearful of humans, I had no social skills at all, and took quite some time to come around when being near humans. I am happy to report, that I am now ready for adoption!! I am able to be petted, loved on, and live like a real dog, isn’t that so cool!! I am living with many other foster brothers and sisters, the four-legged kind that is. I get along well with them, and like to play, I still have a ways to go when it comes to being leashed, and walking without freaking out!! I will need a forever home that has at least one other dog, because I get my confidence from them, it’s a comfort mechanism for me, and I would be sad if I were alone without another dog as a friend. I need to be in a fenced in yard when I go outside, I am learning about something called housetraining, and I think I am catching on. I do my business outside when my foster mom puts me out, but I do still occasionally make a mistake. I am used to my crate, and I stay in there every day when my foster mom works, you see it keeps me out of trouble!! I am a small dog, only about 20 lbs, I am full grown, and will not get any bigger, so if you are looking for smaller, then I could be your dog!! Oh, I do have a bad habit of chewing things, so I am told I am not supposed to do that. I like to chew, its fun, but these humans tell me that is NOT NICE, and I get into trouble when I chew up something.I will work on being a good boy, I promise, I just need to be trained I guess, can you help me? I will give you lots of love in return!!! Viktor is neutered, current on vaccines, and is heartworm negative. If you would like to adopt Viktor or would like more information on him, please fill out an adoption application We do not have a shelter, all rescues are in foster homes - Dogs are not shown without first being approved to adopt. Charlie was rescued from a hoarder home with 40 other beagles. He’s been with us in a loving home for a little over 3 months. He’s very shy and skittish mostly around men and needs patience and time. He’s very loving with the Mom in the home. He’s a very sweet boy and loves attention. He would need a fenced yard as he will run. An experienced previous beagle owner preferred, he’s a blue tick little 28 lb beagle. He’s potty trained and very treat motivated. He would be a great loving little boy.

The pup pictured is one of the “A List Litter”. Beagle mom is Abby, but we don’t know who dad is. We have sent away for a DNA test and will post results as soon as we get them. The pups were born February 24, 2023 to a very good mom.  Girls (6) are: Amber, Amy, Anna, Ashley, Aubree and Ava. Boys (4) are: Adam, Alex, Andy, and Asher. They are all adorable. The name of the puppy is posted on the picture. These guys are playful, sweet and cuddle. Pups will be spayed and neutered and given their one year rabies on June 1, 2023 so can be adopted the weekend of June 2, 2023. They have all their distemper/parvo shots, Bordetella, been wormed and microchipped. Adoption donation is $350. To adopt one of these wonderful puppies, please do our non-obligatory application at www.pawsandprayers.org. Any questions, email marty@pawsandprayers.org . Thinking about a new puppy….. things to keep in mind: Puppy will need time, training, love and connection, mixed in with a load of attention. Best if children are school age or older; we will consider younger children only on exception basis. Puppies have small bladders and need to have someone to let them out regularly for potty breaks…..work from home, work part-time, come home at lunch…..need a plan as they will need you every 4 to 5 hours until they are at least 6 to 8 months old. Will your current pet be willing to accept a new puppy. Puppies can be a handful. Will you be traveling extensively for the next couple of months? Puppy proofing your home is like baby proofing you home; it requires effort. Puppies can go to their new homes from 8 weeks, but holding on a little longer and letting them go around 12 weeks can be really beneficial, as their development and socializing will be a lot more established by that point. Those few extra weeks can make a big difference in how they act in their new home….. more social, less nippy.
