Story
My name is Mama Bear like in Goldilocks. I am looking for a home with a comfy chair and a comfy bed, not too soft just right. I am turning nine years old, but we all know age is just a number. I am loving life and exploring outside and playing with toys. I live with other dogs and a cat and we’re all fine together. I don’t need a home with another dog, but it would be really nice to have a friend. I am very calm, quiet and sweet. I get very excited when I see a food bowl and I start to dance.I have learned to play with toys and play chase. Put me on your lap, stretch out in your recliner and read a book.I’m good for about 500 pages! I am a Havanese/bichon mix so you would get two adorable breeds for the price of one. What more could you ask for? I am up-to-date on my shots and I will soon be spayed and then I will be ready for adoption. Hurry and fill out an application I’ll be waiting. Story
Meet Daisy Mae 💗 Daisy Mae is a sweet 4½-year-old Havanese girl who is just beginning to discover how wonderful life can be. After spending her early years being used for breeding, Daisy Mae has recently been given the chance to start a new chapter. Because she missed out on the love, socialization, and security every dog deserves, the world can still feel like a scary place to her. She is shy and fearful around people, but with patience, kindness, and a little time, Daisy Mae is slowly learning that she is safe and that good things are waiting for her. With the support of her loving foster family, Daisy Mae is beginning to gain confidence and enjoy the simple pleasures of her new life. She will need a confident, friendly four-legged sibling to help show her the ropes and continue teaching her that the world isn't such a scary place. Having another dog to follow and learn from will be an important part of her continued growth. A securely fenced-in yard is also a must for Daisy Mae, providing her with a safe space to explore, build confidence, and enjoy the outdoors at her own pace. Daisy Mae will need a special forever family with patience, understanding, and a gentle heart—someone who recognizes that trust takes time and is willing to let her blossom at her own pace. Beneath her timid exterior is a little girl who deserves to feel loved, cherished, and protected for the rest of her life. Her journey is just beginning, and with the right family and a furry friend by her side, Daisy Mae can continue to grow into the happy, confident companion she was always meant to be. 💕 NY State Rescue Registry: RR363

Story
Meet Wes Craven , Wes for short! 🐾💙 Wes is new to rescue, so we’re still getting to know this adorable little guy! He is a 4-month-old Teddy Bear (Havanese/Bichon Frise mix). His mama is already with us in rescue and weighs 17 pounds, giving us a helpful idea of Wes’s potential adult size. Wes can be adopted as an only dog, or he would do well with another confident dog who can help show him the ropes. So, what do we know about Wes so far? He’s a typical, playful puppy who is still learning all about the world around him!🐶 🏡 He’s learning to sleep in a crate. 🌿 He’s working on potty training and learning to do his business outside. 🎾 He has plenty of puppy energy and loves to run and play! 🦷 Like many puppies his age, he occasionally gets a little nibble-happy as he explores. Wes is still a baby, and he’ll need a family who understands that puppies require time, patience, consistency, and lots of love to grow into the wonderful dogs they’re meant to be. ❤️ We’re excited to watch this sweet boy learn and grow as he begins his rescue journey! 🐾💙 NY State Rescue Registry: RR363

Story
Swiffer (aka Gibbs) is a survivor! He had been running stray for a whole YEAR before Good Samaritans were able to catch him. He is a 5-year-old, 15 lb. small breed mystery mix, possibly Miniature Poodle, and maybe some Havanese, Shih Tzu, or something similar. He also resembles a small Terrier. He had been shaved down, but his coat is now growing in wavy, white, cream, and apricot, with gray furnishings. Swiffer is timid at first, understandable, given his past, but has never been snappy. He needs time to adjust to his new & improved circumstances, but with TLC and patience he is sure to settle in. Swiffer is hoping to find a quiet home, preferably with another friendly dog, where he can decompress and relax after his year on the run. A securely fenced yard would be ideal for him. Additional info will be posted as we get to know him better.*Swiffer is now in a foster home in Dunkirk. He is settling in nicely, gets along well with the 4 resident Littles, walks well on leash, is playful and seems to be house trained. He is a sweet boy who loves attention. Check back soon for updates. Meet & Greets can be arranged for approved applicants. His temporary foster mom had this to say: He’s good with dogs and cats. He is still a little skittish with new people. It won’t take much to house train him, he just needs a little help.*Approved applicants are welcome to participate in our popular Slumber Party program and take a dog home for up to 2 weeks to make sure he is a great fit.If you think you might be interested in adopting, your first step should be to complete an Adoption Application at www.caninerescue.org. *After you have completed your application, you will get a confirmation that we have received your application. It takes a lot of time to process the applications, so we ask for your patience while we do so. If you see that the dog you were interested in has been adopted it means there were many applications for that dog and we did not get as far processing your application before a home was found. We welcome you to apply again when you see another dog that interests you.Not sure if you are ready to adopt? Please consider applying to foster Swiffer, which will lead to a happily ever after adoption, either with you, or the family you help him get ready for! Fostering is an incredibly rewarding experience. Learn more and apply on our website, under the “Get Involved” tab. If you have a question, please email us at adoptions@caninerescue.org. It is much easier and quicker for us to respond by email, as we receive many phone calls. We do adopt out of state, however we do not transport or ship dogs. Potential adopters must be able and willing to travel to the Rescue to meet the dog they are interested in.*PLEASE double check all of the phone numbers that you provide. If they are incorrect, we will not be able to process your application. Please also let your references know that someone from NCCR will be calling them. Most adoption team members call from their personal phone, so advise your references that there may be an unknown or private number calling them. Thank you!
