Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Teddy – 1 Year Old, 10 lbs, Havanese Mix Teddy is a one‑year‑old, ten‑pound Havanese mix who came to us from a local shelter after being surrendered for slipping out the front door multiple times! Now that he’s safe in foster care, he’s blossoming into a happy, affectionate little dog who is ready to start fresh with a family who will love him the way he deserves. Teddy can be a bit shy when he first meets new people, but it doesn’t take long at all for his sweet personality to shine through. Once he feels comfortable, he becomes a warm, loving companion who enjoys being close to his people and soaking up attention. He has a surprisingly big bark for such a small dog, and while it may startle you at first, it’s simply his way of expressing excitement or alerting you to something new - he is a good little watchdog! Teddy loves toys and playtime. He’s also very food‑motivated and absolutely adores watching his foster mom cook—especially when she remembers to pay the “cheese tax.” Teddy enjoys his daily walks and loves spending time outside. A fenced yard would be wonderful for him, as he likes to explore, sniff around, and “help” with gardening. He is crate trained and quiet, and he is doing very well with housetraining. With his young age and the changes he has been through, he may not be perfect just yet, but he is very close. He has been recently groomed and will need regular grooming to keep him comfortable and looking his best. Teddy can be nervous around certain animals. Large dogs overwhelm him, and he will bark or growl out of fear. He is more comfortable with small dogs, though he may do the same when he has special items like toys or chews. He also tends to bark at cats, so a home without feline friends would be best. Although Teddy was previously labeled “not good with children,” we learned that the children in his former home chased him during an escape, which understandably frightened him. To help him feel safe, we recommend a home with children aged fourteen and older who can respect his space and move gently around him. If you have kids who visit, simply crate him and everyone will be happier. Teddy will thrive in a quieter, calmer home where he can settle in at his own pace. Ideally, adult only with no other pets. Teddy is looking for someone who will give him a little time to adjust and who will appreciate his gentle, sensitive nature. He didn’t receive the care he needed early in life, but he is more than ready to make up for lost time. Once he knows he is safe, Teddy becomes a devoted little shadow who follows his people with love and trust. He is a bright, charming, and affectionate young dog who is ready to bring joy, companionship, and warmth to the right home. Teddy is neutered, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated and tested neg. for heartworm. His adoption fee is $550 to help with our high medical needs dogs We require that a martingale collar be used at the time of adoption. If you do not have a martingale collar, you can purchase one from Pixie Mamas for an additional $10. This requirement is in place to ensure the dog's safety and security. Story
Frida is an 8-year-old sweetheart who has fully embraced the art of relaxation. If you're looking for a loyal, low-key companion to share your couch and quiet moments, she may be your perfect match. This gentle girl loves cozy dog beds, afternoon naps, and simply being near her people. She thrives on routine, is housebroken when kept on a consistent schedule, walks nicely on leash, and sleeps quietly through the night. Frida loves other dogs and will happily initiate play with her canine friends. She enjoys having dog companions around and would do well in a home with or without another friendly dog. Frida is looking for an adult-only home or one with older teens (15+). She'll do best with a patient, experienced owner who gives her time to settle in and build trust. Once she feels safe, she becomes a devoted and loving companion. All Frida needs is kindness, consistency, and a soft place to land.

Story
Chewy was born about September 10, 2010 and weighs about 21 pounds. Please understand Google helped us with the breed choices, we are really guessing!!!  Chewy is good with other dogs and cats alike.  He has been around visiting children as young as 2.  He does fine on leash, but the last few years the owner has not been able to walk him and he has used potty floor pads in the home.  She felt that if he happened to get off leash that he would hang around his human.  He did ride beautifully in the car on the two hour trip here.  He is not a chewer and hasn't seemed to enjoy toys or maybe had not had access to any for some time.  He is not a lap hog but does love to sit nearby and enjoys his humans companionship.  Considering all the changes in a short amount of time he moved in here rather easily and should do so again when he finds another forever home.  He has had some vet care over the years.  He was overweight upon arrival but is now slim down beautifully.  Also, upon arrival he was a drastic mess of mats and had to be shaved down and his teeth were a bit much with 6 having to be pulled.  Please know that with the lack of dental care for so long another dental may be needed sooner rather than later.  Chewy does have some normal old dog cloudiness in his eyes and his hearing is diminished some but he can both hear and see, This cutie is ready for a new start in life! We received a plea from a social worker in a city a couple hours away that an elderly lady had been released from the hospital a couple of days ago and went home to her two dogs who had been shut in the bathroom of her mobile home for a month when she had emergency surgery and a neighbor stopped by to give food and water.  Yes, there were relatives not far away, but as we see day in, day out, family disappoints when it comes to an elderly human's pets.  The social worker explained the lady needed to go into assisted care but she refused until her dogs were in a safe place.  Truly, we are proud of her for that devotion and so are Gabe and Chewy.  The two dogs have always been together but are not terribly bonded.  Still we will be looking for a home where there is another dog companion or a human who is home much of the time.  The lady was very grateful when we arrived to escort the dogs to Cuba and the social worker was there at the same time to escort the lady in a care facility.  No one would call this a happy ending but everyone involved did the very best they could in a tough situation.   The Adoption Fee for this dog is $__300.00______. Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. In general our fees include spay/neuter, all age appropriate vaccines, Home Again micro-chipping & registration, worming & flea control - a 'complete' pet. We accept CASH or Visa/Mastercard ONLY.    Joyful Rescues has no funding except for our adoption fees and miscellaneous donations. Pet care and vet bills are expensive - you must be ready to take on this financial (as well as emotional) responsibility. YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 25 YEARS OF AGE TO ADOPT A DOG FROM JOYFUL RESCUES   We keep our pet list as up-to-date as possible. As soon as a pet is adopted, it is removed from the list. If a pet is still showing, it is still available for adoption.   Can't Adopt Me?  SPONSOR ME Look for the Link 'Special Instructions to Seller' if you want to note a particular pet Before you seek to adopt a pet from Joyful Rescues, please read our Pet Adoption page http://www.joyfulrescues.org/pet_adoption.html.
