Story
HI - I'M MISTO! I am a young (about a year old) husky-shepherd mix rescued from a crowded California shelter not too long ago. I was terrified there -- I mean really scared. I wouldn't even come up to greet people. But after a few days out of there, my sunshine personality came out! I'm a loving, dog-friendly boy who would do well with another dog in the home, or as an only dog, too. I love to play and am happy! Change is a bit scary for me so I would do well with both a patient and active person, who could take me for walks, hikes and other outings. I have the most beautiful blue eyes, and I weigh about 50 lbs. Please email for an application! I currently need a foster or forever home.

Story
Meet Stormy, the husky. You may be wondering why Stormy is missing hair. Well, Stormy came into the Shelter after her prior guardian was unable to continue caring for her. Stormy was an indoor dog who also had access to a securely fenced in backyard. She lived with another dog and a dog-savvy cat and did well with them. Over time, Stormy started to itch and bite at her skin. Her previous guardian did not have the resources to take her to the vet. After realizing how uncomfortable Stormy was, she wanted her to get the help she needed so she surrendered her to the Shelter. The medical team has gotten Stormy on the road to recovery with some oral and topical treatments to help her feel better. Despite her condition, she has been social and tolerant of handling and treatments. As an older gal, she is easy going. She still enjoys her walks and has met other dogs without issue. Stormy’s next adopter will need to be an individual who has the resources (time, finances, etc) to take in a senior dog with medical. This will require more frequent vet visits, especially while working with their veterinarian to get her skin feeling better. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
Meet Lewis, the husky Samoyed mix! Lewis came to the Shelter with his partner in crime Lavendar (who is also up for adoption). They were found by a good Samaritan in the roadway in the Santa Cruz Mountains. After their stray hold was complete and no individual came forward to reclaim them, they were evaluated for adoption. Although they came in together, Lavendar and Lewis are not required to be adopted together. But if someone is looking for a duo, they could be considered to go to a home together. Here`s what we have learned about Lewis – he is a social guy can be a little nervous at first but warms up. Lewis has been interested in interacting with primarily female dogs since his arrival at the Shelter, which may be hormonal at this time. Any resident dogs should meet at the Shelter prior to adoption. We do not have any history of Lewis with children or cats.
