Story
Meet Nika! Nika is a Husky who is approximately 2 years old and is ready for a new home! Nika was found as a stray and was not claimed by her family, so unfortunately we don't know what her life was like prior to coming here and we're learning as we go. She keeps her kennel clean, so she is likely potty trained, but as always we recommend a refresher course in a new home so that she can learn the new schedule. She knows sit and likes treats, and she's incredibly social and extroverted! Nika already has a K9 play mate at the shelter and would likely love another dog at home to play with, or even to attend doggy daycare now and then to play with other dog friends! We think she'll do well with kids as long as everyone is properly introduced & supervised. We do not know if Nika has ever met a cat. As anyone who has ever owned huskies knows, Nika will need safe containment anytime she is outside. Huskies are known for their adventurous side and their love of running, so it's not a good idea to have her free roam outside. Utilizing things like fenced yards, leashes & tie outs is a good way to keep her safe from harm. She'll be a wonderful exercise companion for anyone who loves the outdoors and wants a buddy for walking, hiking and running! If you are an outdoorsy, fun, adventurous person who would enjoy the comical companionship of a Husky, Nika would love to meet you! She will be fully vaccinated & spayed prior to adoption. Her adoption fee is $200 We are doing all meet n' greets BY APPOINTMENT ONLY after an adoption application has been approved: https://www.co.monroe.wi.us/home/showpublisheddocument/35564 *Please email this back to us at monroecountydogshelter@gmail.com

Story
Meet Konan! Konan is approximately 4 1/2 years old and is a Husky mix. Unfortunately, Konan was removed from a home after being kept in unlivable conditions and not able to be outside for activity. Because of this, we're hoping to find him a family who can show him just how wonderful life can be! He was kept in a crate that was far too small for him, forcing him to live lying down or stand crouched over. He had parasites and G.I. bacteria, so he was treated immediately upon coming to us so that he could start to feel better. None of this mistreatment or neglect has stopped Konan from LOVING people. He's an absolute sweetheart who loves everyone he meets. One of his favorite things is belly rubs & he's very affectionate. Konan is great at keeping his kennel clean, so we think he'll pick up on the new potty training schedule with consistency and patience. He's playful and will entertain himself with a tennis ball and pile of snow with no complaints. He loves toys, interacting with people, and should do well around dogs given a proper introduction & supervision. (he is not recommended to live with cats due to his prey drive) Konan has a nice moderate energy level, meaning he'd be ideal for someone who wants to be outside to exercise every day, but on a nice day he'd likely love to hang outside in the backyard or snuggle with you on the couch. As most folks with a history of Husky ownership know, it's important that Konan has safe containment anytime he's outside. This breed is famous for being adventurous and clever, so a leash, tie-out or fence is best to keep him safe. One thing to note: Konan has a severe over-bite. While it's one of the cutest things you'll ever see, it's also causing his bottom canines to make contact with the roof of his mouth. We've been working with a vet on our plan for some dental work to ensure Konan has a pain-free mouth for the rest of his life. This will be done prior to his adoption. (and the adorable over-bite will still exist!) Konan has been through so much in his life so far, and we cannot wait to find him someone who loves how goofy and loving this breed can be. If you'd like to meet Konan, we are doing all meet n' greets BY APPOINTMENT ONLY after an adoption application has been generally approved: https://www.co.monroe.wi.us/home/showpublisheddocument/35564 *Please email this application back to monroecountydogshelter@gmail.com Konan is neutered & fully vaccinated. His adoption fee is $200

Story
Meet Zucchini! She is approximately 10-12 months old and is a mixed breed. She has physical traits similar to a Husky, Pit Bull Terrier or Bull Terrier, but without a DNA test we don't know for sure what she is, other than Pure Bred CUTE! Zucchini was found curled up on someone's patio way out in the country, and it's unknown if she was lost and just found a safe spot to rest, or if she was abandoned there and found safety near a household. Either way, we promised her that she would not have to experience that again! Zucchini was a little bit bashful at first, but it took her no time at all to warm up and feel comfortable around us. She's so good in her kennel and just curls up in her dog bed until it's her turn to come out. She keeps her kennel clean, so she seems to be potty trained but a refresher course may be needed so she can learn the new schedule in a home. Since she kennels nicely, we feel that utilizing a crate can also help her with the transition and give her a safe space to call her own. Zucchini has a nice moderate energy level so far - we think she'd make a great companion for daily walking, hiking & exploring, but we can also see her curled up with you on the couch for a movie night! We don't know what her history was with other pets or children, so we're learning as we go with her, but she has a sweet temperament and would likely do well as long as everyone is properly introduced and supervised. We will update her bio on this topic as we learn more. We also think she'd do just fine as an only pet and would not necessarily need any play mates. Zucchini is a nice 37 lbs and ready to find a new family! If you'd like that to be you, please follow the link below.
