Story
Cosmo is a handsome husky mix just over a year old, bursting with personality and ready to find a home that can keep up with his fun-loving spirit. He is an affectionate, people-focused boy who thrives on connection and loves being part of the action with his humans. Cosmo already has a solid training foundation and continues to learn every day. He knows sit, down, off, come, and leave it, and is working on polishing his manners with consistency and positive reinforcement. He enjoys leashed walks and is generally unfazed by his surroundings, even if his path includes some enthusiastic zig-zagging as he takes everything in. He rides well in the car and settles nicely indoors, where he shows his calmer side by chewing on his favourite rope toy, tossing around his pink pig stuffy, and happily snoozing after playtime. Like many young dogs, Cosmo has plenty of energy and sometimes forgets just how bouncy he can be. He loves to play with other dogs and can be enthusiastic about it, but he has shown good social awareness by responding appropriately when another dog sets boundaries. He has done well with a variety of dogs of different sizes and ages, and even spent a weekend with several dogs successfully. He is also doing well with the resident cat, showing curiosity without signs of prey drive. Cosmo has not yet lived with children in his foster home, but with his playful, puppy-like energy, he may do well with dog-savvy kids who are ready to help guide him with training, clear boundaries, and lots of positive reinforcement. Crate training is a work in progress. Cosmo will go into his crate willingly and is improving steadily, though he may vocalize briefly as he settles in, especially at night. Cosmo forms strong attachments to his people and can show some separation anxiety. He will thrive in a home committed to ongoing bonding, confidence building, and positive reinforcement training to help him feel secure and settled. Cosmo would thrive in an active home that enjoys training, playtime, and daily outlets for his energy. A family committed to continuing his training and helping him mature into his best self will be rewarded with a loyal, affectionate companion. He would likely do well with another playful dog who enjoys interaction, or as a solo dog with plenty of human engagement and enrichment. At the end of the day, Cosmos favourite place is right beside his people. He is a sweet, gentle boy at heart who loves treats, companionship, and feeling included. With structure, patience, and plenty of love, Cosmo will grow into a wonderful lifelong companion. Our adoption fees cover all up to date veterinary needs, including but not limited to: full veterinary examination, age appropriate vaccinations, fecal test and parasite prevention, wellness bloodwork, spay or neuter, and microchip. All dogs will be started on a 6 week trial of pet insurance after adoption. Local adopters can take advantage of 50% off a training course at Ruff Haus in Barrie (www.ruffhaus.ca) and all adopters will also be signed up for Petcademy to offer 30 days of free text-based behavioural support.
