Story
Snow Storm is a handsome and fluffy boy. He might seem like a big buff boy, but under that fluff is a tender and shy hearted pup. Snacks are the best way to become friends with him. He is not picky with treats either! He'll take them from you like a gentleman too. Snow Storm walks well on leash and will sit for you. He is cuddly and a bit needy with his staff buddies. He would request his forever home to be teens and older please. If you are looking for a snowy boy, ask about Snow Storm!

Story
Star is fostered in CA. Star is great with dogs, but having energy can play excitedly and may not be a fit for puppies or elderly dogs. Star is a gorgeous girl with brains and energy to match! She might be blind, but that doesn’t slow her down at all. She navigates just fine and all the important things (food, sniffy walks, petting) don’t require sight. Star also had a couple of seizures, which the vet is calling idiopathic epilepsy since no other cause was found in testing, so she takes Keppra and that has prevented any more episodes. She has already learned a lot of words, including: focus, sit, step, and walking. Given her puppy energy level, she would love to be in a home with another dog her size or bigger and no small children or cats. Star *loves* meeting new people and dogs, exploring her environment, eating, walking, and snoozing in her crate or in the car. She is still learning to be the best dog, but she is a quick study. She needs a family experienced with Huskies or similar breeds who are willing to continue her education. If you are active and ready for an energetic beauty, contact us to learn more about Star! BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.

Story
Please contact Judy (paxtonj@live.com), (865) 300-8146 for more information about this pet.Almost Home believes that every animal deserves a loving home regardless of appearance, age, or physical limitation.  We have come together to give animals in need the safe and happy life they all deserve.  Almost Home Animal Rescue believes that no animal is expendable.  Adopting a friend:The animals, lucky enough to find refuge with Almost Home, are all in loving foster homes. If you are interested in the possibility of giving one of the animals a new lease on life, please contact us. The contact information is listed at the end of each biography.  What you need to do to adopt:If you would like to adopt a pet in need from Almost Home, basically, an application must be filled out. We will check two personal references and a vet reference. If you are approved for adoption, there is a trial period of about one week to make sure this is the animal for you and you are the person for the animal. Along with the trial period, a contract must be signed that basically states that if ever you cannot keep the animal that you must return the animal to Almost Home. Last but not least, a home check will be done. Meet & Greets:An approved application is required. This does not mean that you have to adopt but that you are approved to do so if everything works out. Since we are foster based, this limits the amount of people coming to our homes.  Lexi is a gorgeous two-year-old husky mix with one blue eye. Her elderly owner must give her up because Lexi recently became food aggressive and more alpha with the other dog. No blood has been spilt. This behavior can be delt with by training. It is not unusual to see this alpha behavior around age two. Both dogs are now crated in different rooms and go outside separately. This is a difficult situation for the elderly owner and she must find a new home for her ASAP. Until this behavior is trained out of her, Lexi will do best as the only dog or with a male dog her size or larger. A larger female might work, too. She is a very sweet and well-behaved girl. She knows basic commands and loves people. She needs a home with someone who will appreciate all these good qualities and work with her to make sure she learns better manners. An active person who will take her on rides in the car and on long walks will be a plus. Fenced in yard for running needed. Lexi is spayed, up-to-date on shots, and micro-chipped.  Adoption fee is $100. Contact Judy at judy@almosthometn.org or 865-300-8146 if you would like to foster or give Lexi a great new home. Guest posting by JP Nov. 28, 2023.ADOPTION FEE: The adoption fee for a cat is $85. The adoption fee for a kitten is $100. The adoption fee does include the kittens being fixed and their rabies shot when they are old enough through one of our local vets. The adoption fee for a dog is $200. The adoption fee for a puppy is $250. The adoption fee does include the puppies being fixed and their rabies shot when they are old enough through one of our local vets. Mature pet adoption fees are sometimes reduced. The adoption fee for pure bred dogs and cats will vary due to health and age of pet. This helps support our ill animals and our mutts that get left in the system longer. We do reserve the right to change the fees higher or lower due to the circumstance of the animal but what was stated above are the usual adoption fees.  Microchipped pets will have a higher adoption fee.  Our adoption fees do not cover the cost of the vetting and care the animal has received with us and if it ever does, the money just goes back it to helping other animals in need. May 7, 2024, 6:03 pm

Story
Sasha is roughly one year old and was picked up from a shelter when she was 6 months old. She has had obedience training and knows a lot of tricks! She is a very intelligent, quick learner, who loves to play fetch /do zoomies and learn new things (very food oriented). She is rough with her beloved toys (tough chewer). Sasha is familiar with cats in passing and loves playing with other dogs and any human adults. Sasha might thrive with an owner that has experience with Huskies (and has no young children). She has occasional possessive aggression (fluffy objects and new toys). She normally sticks to gentle love nibbles (her primary communication form). She is destructive when bored but she is crate trained. So, she is used to being around people or being put away for only short periods of time. Sasha does have allergies (not narrowed down). Since we (first time dog owners) are starting a family, we are unfortunately unable to continue training Sasha like she needs.

Story
Hi this is Dani. She is a 7 year old female AKC registered Siberian Husky. We recently brought home a new baby and no longer have the time to give her the attention she needs. We are looking for someone that will be able to give her the time she needs and will love her as much as we do. Here’s a few things about Dani: 1) LOVES to swim, hike, camp, and walk at the park 2) LOVES neck scratches 3) is obsessed with food 4) gets zoomies every once in a while 5) likes to sleep much of the day if it’s a chill day 6) needs lots of room to play 7) off leashed trained (K9 Off-leash Training in Knoxville)(but may still chase a squirrel if you’re not careful) 8) knows sit, down, heel, place, play dead, turn, speak 9) not good with other dogs 10) not good with small kids, but loves pets from all adults 11) good with our cat; unknown if good with other cats 12) stays inside, free roam of our house when we are gone and at night; completely house trained.

These pups are in Knoxville, Tennessee too!

Story
Meet Bodie! Bodie is a young dog looking for his next big adventure-- getting adopted! He loves to hang out with other dogs of all sizes. He has been doing well with his house training. He thinks of himself as a watch dog and will go "boof boof" if you walk by his door, but he's a pretty lousy one since, once you open the door, he'll greet you like an old friend even if you're a stranger. He is described as affectionate, treat motivated, and playful. Bodie loves playing with toys on his own as well as playing tug. He hasn't shown destructive behavior here in the shelter. Apply to meet him today!

Story
Kristoff is being fostered in TX. Kristoff's foster home would like you to know: That Kristoff is the embodiment of Happiness! This little man is filled with joy in everything he does. His tail waggle is ever present and he does a happy dance regularly. He truly is a joy and just wants to be where you are. Kristoff does shed. He has a shed similar to a husky or Shepard, where he has seasonal times where he blows his coat. Meet Kristoff (aka Kris, Little Man)! This precious pup is a chow mix, approximately 9 years old. But don’t let his age or blindness (he is blind due to cataracts) fool you, he is a spry, happy go lucky guy who can sure pour on the puppy dog eyes! When he wakes up he will do a happy dance to start the day (whether it is because he is so happy to greet his people or because it is time for breakfast is up for debate) and his joyfulness continues throughout the day (he is equally enthusiastic about bedtime!). Although his happiness abounds, he is mostly an easy going fellow and is content to enjoy the simple pleasures: his meals, leisurely strolls through the yard, chewing a bone, enjoying a cookie and most importantly, being near his people as much as possible. He is a low maintenance boy, doesn’t require a lot of walking and would thrive most in a laid back environment with someone patient, who doesn’t mind talking a lot (your voice will help guide him) and who can give him helpful hints to help him on his way (like “bump” warnings, etc). Kris can become a bit jumpy when scared or unsure, but trusting his people fixes that. The world can be a scary place when you can’t see, but most of the time he takes it in stride. He moves slowly to find his way and needs to build trust so he can feel safe. Luckily he is very smart and a fast learner (he learned how to find and use his foster’s doggy door within a day & lets himself in and out, and quickly learned “sit” and now enthusiastically sits on his own to wait for his meals). He doesn’t always love getting leashed, but he does follow along (happily, once he trusts the person on the other end) and he is definitely not a fan of car rides. Kris gets a little protective over food & treats and will give a warning grumble but he is otherwise ok with other dogs, he just isn’t too interested in them. Unsure about cats or kids. But we all have our things, right? This well behaved boy is content to sit in his room or crate, patiently waiting, and loves a routine that allows for lots of rests and doggy massages on request. The yard is his happy place. And above all else, this fellow is a pure joy to be around. If you have the time and patience to help this little man navigate the world, you will soon realize that you are very blessed to have this bundle of love by your side! BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.
