Story
Scotty is about as smart and sweet as they come, though he appears to have encountered some humans in the past who weren’t always kind to him. When first rescued from a high-kill shelter, he was pent-up, anxious, and unsure about people. But after having time to decompress, run and play at the dog park, and quiet time in his foster home, his true, affectionate personality began to emerge. He’s become a favorite with the regulars at the dog park, actively soliciting attention and climbing into laps. He’s curious and respectful with the other dogs, loves to explore and play chase, but never loses track of his people. Scotty and his foster mom are working with a professional trainer to help him build confidence, trust, impulse control, and good manners. He LOVES the training games and is already quite impressive with recall at the dog park. He walks nicely on a leash with his Perfect Pace headcollar and has been a pleasure on recent outings to Irvine Spectrum and Laguna Beach. At about 3 years old, this scrappy boy has the stamina of an athlete. He needs an ACTIVE lifestyle with people who love “getting out there” and taking their best friend with them. A canine brother or sister would be fine by him -- but he’d be just as happy having you all to himself. Strong, compassionate leadership and structure will be important for Scotty, so he can trust you to guide him when he feels unsure. There are a few things from his past that Scotty’s still working through…. Like many of us, he needs time to get to know people before he trusts completely. Games that challenge his mind (especially if they involve treats!) have proven to be a fast route to a heart connection. And once he opens his heart to you, you’ll be smitten! To help him get off to a great start with his forever family, Scotty comes with a “Smart Start” scholarship for 3 private sessions with his trainer.
