PINE & OAK ARE WAY OUTSIDE THEIR COMFORT ZONE. These two little boys came from a hoarding situation, where they simply didn’t receive the attention, affection, and socialization they needed to grow into confident, happy family dogs. The shelter environment is extremely stressful and frightening for them. Most days, they hide. When people pass their kennel, it is heartbreaking to see these two little dogs shivering in the corner, hoping the scary world around them will go away. Oak, the little white-faced boy, is especially fearful. When you enter the kennel, he can panic and push himself in hard, trying to hide. He will often tuck himself underneath his big brother Pine, looking to him for protection. Pine is a little braver, but he is still incredibly frightened. He will position his body over his little brother, almost as if he is trying to protect Oak, while both boys shiver and wait for the scary human to leave. But here is the important part… NEITHER OF THESE BOYS HAS A MEAN BONE IN HIS BODY. They are fearful, not aggressive. They have clearly experienced some human companionship; they just didn’t receive enough positive socialization to become confident, well-adjusted family dogs. We truly believe that with time, patience, consistency, and a quiet home, these two wonderful little guys can learn what it means to feel safe. We can picture them decompressing, discovering toys, playing silly little games, learning to trust their people, and eventually curling up beside their family for affection and cuddles. For their best chance at building confidence, PINE AND OAK WOULD DO BETTER APART. They rely heavily on each other, and unfortunately, they also enable each other’s fears. Separating them will allow each boy to learn that he can be brave on his own. A sweet, gentle, confident dog in the home may be helpful for either boy, as the right canine companion could help show them that the world isn’t so scary and encourage them to come out of their shells. We truly believe that once these boys have the opportunity to decompress in a safe home, their true personalities will begin to shine. They just need someone willing to give them that chance. IMPORTANT: Both boys are a flight risk until they have bonded with their people. They will need secure handling and a safe, properly secured environment while they learn that they are safe.

Because of this, her ideal home would be a quiet, patient one where she doesn’t have to constantly be out and about. Ava has about a one-hour social battery—after that, she is more than ready to head home, curl up, and relax. She does well with dogs her size and doesn’t seem to mind cats. Ava would be happiest as a homebody with someone who enjoys the simple things in life. Think cozy mornings, a warm cup of coffee, and plenty of time to sit together and discuss the local gossip.
