Lucy has always had other dogs around her but we recently had to put her two companions, Bella a Golden and Prince a Pitt to sleep. They were 12 and 13 years old. Lucy is 8. She has been sad ever since. I lost my husband unexpectedly 10/17/2024 and need to move to Florida with my daughter. She and her daughter are allergic so I can’t take Lucy with me I’m looking to rehome her. She is very sweet and loves to snuggle. She is potty trained but not kennel trained.

Thanks to a grant from the Petfinder Foundation, my adoption fee is 75% off. So I'm only $50 to adopt. Hi, I'm Suki! I'm a young girl at almost a year old. I'm a small girl and will stay small. I'm around 20 lbs and look to be some sort of Heeler/JRT mix maybe. I came to the shelter with a bunch of other dogs when I was just a little puppy. The shelter isn't sure what my life was like prior, but at just 10 weeks old I was super scared and didn't understand human affection. The shelter has been working with me to help me gain confidence and be more social but I may be shy for the rest of my life...Once I get to know you, I am a sweet girl! I walk pretty good on a leash and I love other dogs! I seem to open up more to humans when another dog is around so it might be a good idea for me to go to a home with another dog. I'm really just looking for that special someone to swoop in and save me. I'd love to know what the rest of the world is like as I have only been here for majority of my life.  If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2632312##
