Adoption Fee: $475 When available, all animals are fixed in accordance with Colorado law, up to date on vaccines (may need boosters), and microchipped! What we know: Came to CPR from Española Humane Shelter in New Mexico with his sister in May 2026 at 3 months old and was adopted. Returned in August 2026 due to reported food aggression with the other dog and people in the household. Louie will need a family who understands this behavior and is willing to work through it with him, as he is still at an age where this can be brought to a more manageable level, if not resolved. From the foster: Ready for a new pup in your life but not sure you're up for all the puppy work? Meet Louie, a sweet and gentle pup who just needs some finishing puppy touches. He's potty trained, he doesn't chew things that aren't his toys, he's good on walks, he's crate trained (although we - his current fosters - don't bother crating him; he sleeps on the bed with us). He's polite when he meets dogs and people on neighborhood walks and at the dog park. He's a gem. We know he needs some training about resource guarding, for which he was returned by his adopters after three months. We might try to start training that out of him this week with our granddog, whom he "corrected" when she was at our house earlier. (We've been advised to put a barrier between the two dogs at meal time.) I'm optimistic he can move past it, given the chance. Meantime, as the only dog in our house, he's relaxed and completely docile. Full puppy disclosure: when he comes home after an unsuccessful adoption event, we make sure we don't leave food on the counter, we pull up our shades so he doesn't jump on them when we leave the house (which makes him anxious), we close doors to rooms we'd rather he not explore while we're gone, and we keep towels on hand for mopping up his exuberant sessions at the water bowl. He IS a puppy, and still will develop his best at-home manners, with all of our help. It breaks our heart that he's not in his forever home tonight. He wants to be home with the family that will love him for the rest of his life. Could that be you? He's available for a reservation on September 26.
