Story
Meet Bruno! Bruno was brought to the shelter due to a bite incident with a small child bothering him while he was in his crate. He is anxious of loud noises (children crying), but can be ok with an older child if monitored. He can be sweet, and fun loving, but will need an experienced owner as he does not like taking direction or being corrected. He loves going for walks, and is always up for a a good game of fetch. He has a unique curl to his tail that just adds to his overall cuteness. Primary Color: Black Weight: 52 Age: 3yrs 1mths 1wks

Story
We have another very special pup to introduce you to, and her name is Tart. We guess her to be a lab mix that was born in our care July of 2020. Her and her siblings were all very happy puppies, but as they became older and got closer to weaning, Tart began to lose the function in her back legs. She was born with a parasite called Neospirosis, and was the only one in the litter affected by it. By the time our veterinarians figured out what was happening, we were able to get her treated to prevent further damage from spreading, but unfortunately, the joints in her back legs were already deformed .The muscles atrophied and paralyzed leaving her unable to walk. Eventually we were able to fundraise enough to get her a wheelchair, which helped her build the upper body strength needed to support herself. She doesn't walk like a normal dog, but she does an amazing job getting around on her own without anyone's help. Tart's drive to conquer her disability and enjoy life is so inspiring! She does enjoy going outside for short walks, Tart gets along well with other dogs, and absolutely adores attention and affection. Having been born at the beginning of the pandemic, she didn't get the stranger socialization she needed. She is a little slow to make new friends, but is easily won over with treats and love. All Tart has ever known is the shelter, and she is a very special part of our Dogwood Family. But she is so deserving a family of her own! However, there are things that should be considered prior to her adoption. Tart isn't incontinent, and she can certainly be house trained, however, it's going to take a special environment to do that in. She is not capable of getting in and out of cars on her own, or navigating stairs. She can use a dog door if its low enough, but it's still difficult for her. When she was seen at the university, her specialist said there would likely come a time in her life where she will sadly need her wheelchair again. We know it's going to take someone just as extraordinary as she is to bring her home and provide the care that she deserves. If you're interested in meeting this special girl, or have any question as to the requirement of her care, please don't hesitate to ask! Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 50.8 Age: 3yrs 9mths 2wks
