Story
Meet Nick, a four year old Lab/Pit mix weighing 56 pounds. Nick`s story is a bittersweet one. He was originally adopted from Yakima Humane Society as a puppy, so it breaks our hearts to see him back with us now. Nick was recently brought in by Animal Control along with another dog and a cat after his owner was hospitalized. Sadly, no family members came forward to take them, so Nick is now searching for a new place to call home.If you`re looking for a calm, easygoing companion, Nick might be your perfect match. He is incredibly well-behaved and has quickly become a favorite around the shelter. Rather than causing a fuss, Nick is content to spend his days hanging out in a staff member`s office, relaxing on a cozy bed, and taking the occasional potty break. On leash, Nick is a dream. He`ll happily follow your lead and stroll along by your side without any drama. While he can be a little unsure in new situations, he`s a sensitive soul who simply needs a little time and reassurance. Once he feels comfortable, his laid-back personality shines through.Nick isn`t asking for much—just a quiet home, a soft place to rest, and people who will love him as much as he`ll love them. After losing the only home he knew, this sweet boy deserves a true second chance. If you have room in your heart for a gentle, loyal companion, Nick is ready to be your best friend. This pet is available for adoption on 6/5/2026 5:30 PM at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. Story
Meet Blaze, a two month old Lab/Chihuahua mix weighing 10 pounds.Blaze is a shy but sweet puppy who is just beginning his journey in life. He came to us through our My Last Litter program, which helps reduce pet overpopulation by spaying mom dogs while also finding loving homes for their puppies. His mom is a Lab mix, and dad is believed to be a smaller dog, possibly a Chihuahua mix—so Blaze and his littermates are likely a fun blend of many breeds, and it will be exciting to watch them grow.Blaze has shorter legs like some of his siblings, and a gentle, reserved personality. He is more on the shy side and may take a little time to warm up in new situations, but with patience and kindness, he has the potential to build confidence and blossom into a wonderful companion.Like all puppies, Blaze will need continued socialization, training, and structure as he grows. Positive early experiences with new people, places, sounds, and other animals will be especially important in helping him develop into a confident, well-rounded adult dog.Blaze is looking for a patient, loving home that understands puppy development and is ready to help him grow at his own pace with consistency, encouragement, and care. This pet is available for adoption on 6.5.26 at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. Story
Meet Iris, a ten-month-old Lab/Dane mix weighing over 60 pounds.Iris is a big, happy goofball with a sweet personality and an adorable smile that’s sure to make you laugh. She’s friendly and enjoys being around people, but she’s still learning about some of the basics — especially walking on a leash.Leashes seem to be very new and a little scary for Iris right now, so she will need a patient adopter willing to help her build confidence and learn at her own pace. A harness may help her feel more secure as she adjusts and discovers that walks can be fun.Despite her uncertainty with the leash, Iris has a joyful spirit and a loving nature that shine through. With some guidance, encouragement, and consistency, this goofy girl is sure to blossom into a wonderful companion. This pet is available for adoption on 5/25/2026 1:43 PM at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center.
