Hello! My name is Bubba. I am 3 year old, male, Labrador/Shepherd, German mix and I'm available for adoption at Santa Barbara Humane's Santa Maria Campus! I'm a big-hearted guy with an even bigger personality. I may have a little too much love to give sometimes, but that's only because I can't help being excited about the people I care about! Since I can get a little enthusiastic, especially around my smaller human friends, I'll need some help practicing my manners and learning impulse control. With some continued guidance, I'll be the best version of myself. I'm a smart guy who already knows some basic commands, walk nicely on a leash, and am housetrained. I love having adventures outside, but my favorite place might just be right next to you. In fact, I firmly believe I am the perfect size to be a lap dog—even if my humans might disagree! I’m a total cuddle bug and will happily soak up all the affection you’re willing to share. When it comes to other dogs, I’m a little selective about my friends and would do best with slow introductions to make sure everyone feels comfortable. But once I know you’re my person, I’ll be your loyal sidekick through it all. Like all animals at Santa Barbara Humane, before going home I will be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped​. My adoption also includes a complimentary post-adoption health exam with a participating local veterinary clinic as well as a supply of Hill's Science Diet food to help make my first few days at home a little easier. If you're ready to welcome me or another animal into your family, stop by during adoption hours—daily from 12:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., except Wednesdays. No ​appointment or advance notice is ​r​equired! Need to pick up a few essentials before heading home? Visit the retail center at either Santa Barbara Humane campus, where you'll find toys, treats, collars, leashes, and more at competitive prices. Every purchase helps support the animals in our care and the programs that serve pets and people throughout our community. ​We hope to see you soon!

I love spending time with my people and can’t wait to head out on an adventure with you! I love exploring whether it’s a brisk walk in the neighborhood or a hike in the forest. Something else I love is snacks! I’m eager for you to show me which behaviors you like by rewarding me with a little something yummy! At the shelter I’ve learned “sit” and I’m practicing “down,” “stay” and “touch.” I’m happy to learn other new things and love when my brain is engaged. Some of my human friends say I probably have a herding breed mixed into my DNA so it would be awesome if I got a family ready to tap into all the wonderful things that brings. I’m ready to learn, I just need a family of my own to show me what to do!
