Story
Looks like: Labrador Retriever mix Female, 9 years old (estimated), 60 pounds Don't let her frosted gray coat fool you, this 8 year old is pure sunshine around those she loves. A copilot extraordinaire, this trusty girl loves being a passenger princess (just don't ask her to back up the trailer.) She's a wonderful walk companion and trail guide, who takes great joy in pointing out the local flora and fauna to her companions. She took up knitting while waiting for her forever home to find her, after 731+ days at it, her scarf now qualifies for a Guinness book world record but she's holding out hope! Miss Mihla enjoys spending her time going for car rides or long walks, playing surgeon with squeaky toys, alerting her fosters about squirrels and birds that dare to cross her path, and attending training regularly to work on building up her leash manners. This lovely lady would be ideal for a home where she can be the star and not have to share your attention but she may also fit right in with a household that has a mellow dog who doesn't mind sharing the spotlight. Due to how excited we have seen her get around prey animals we suspect she may not be ideal for a household with cats. We have not seen how she is with children. The SPCA of Monterey County reached out to us for help because Mihla was becoming increasingly stressed in the shelter environment. She was a favorite among many volunteers who worked with her there, so how could we resist?

Story
Looks like: Lab/Shepherd Mix Male, 13 years old (estimated), 63 pounds Buddy is a senior with a heart as big as they come. This sweet boy has spent his life being a loyal companion, and now he's looking for a gentle, loving home to spend his golden years. Buddy is the definition of low maintenance. He's perfectly content with short strolls, cozy naps, and simply being near his person. His happiest moments are the quiet ones, resting by your side, soaking up affection, and offering that calm, comforting presence only a senior dog can provide. What Buddy needs most now is a soft place to land, a peaceful home and a kind human who will cherish him and keep him company. In return, he'll offer unwavering companionship, gentle affection, and a lifetime of love wrapped into his golden years. Buddy came into rescue through no fault of his own. His devoted guardian recently moved into a nursing home and, heartbreakingly, can no longer care for him. Buddy is a little confused by all the change, but through it all, he remains incredibly sweet, trusting, and full of love to give.

Story
Momo is a 5 year old Lab/GSD mix and is a steady, well-trained companion who settles nicely in the home. She is fully house-trained and crate-trained, usually preferring to find a quiet spot to nap once she’s had her morning walk or a bit of time outside. She is eager to please and is food motivated. She is responsive and easy to handle, with a solid "place" command and reliable off-leash recall. While she enjoys the company of other dogs, she is not a fit for a home with small children and requires an adult-only household or one with older kids. She is healthy, spayed, and up to date on all shots. She is an active, loyal, straightforward dog looking for a balanced home.

Story
Meet Chewy! Chewy is a 7½-year-old Yellow Labrador Retriever with the sweetest face, beautiful brown eyes, and a heart full of love. He came to our rescue as a stray in heartbreaking condition - 20 pounds underweight and suffering from a severe skin infection. We knew this handsome boy deserved a second chance, so we got him the specialized veterinary care he needed. Today, his infections are cleared, he is healthy and happy, and he is ready to find the loving forever home he’s been waiting for. Chewy is the kind of dog who wants to be right by your side. Whether you’re taking a walk, relaxing around the house, or settling in for the evening, he’ll be your faithful four-legged companion. And when the day winds down, there’s nothing he loves more than snuggling up next to you on the couch. Fair warning: Chewy doesn’t always remember that he’s a big guy at 77 pounds - he firmly believes he’s still a lap dog! In his foster home, this playful boy has some favorite pastimes, including chasing and retrieving his squeaky ChuckIt balls, chewing on Benebones, and enthusiastically de-stuffing his stuffies. He walks well on a leash, is potty trained, and is crate trained. He sleeps peacefully in his crate overnight and will also stay in it during extended stays away from the house during the day, making him an easy and wonderful companion to have around the house. Because we don't think he was properly socialized in his younger years, Chewy enjoys the company of other dogs after proper introductions. He doesn't quite understand the concept of "play", so he might be a better roommate to another dog rather than a playmate. In his foster home, he gets along beautifully with three very large male dogs. Because of his size and tendency to forget just how big he is, he would do best in a home with older children who can appreciate his big-dog personality. After everything Chewy has been through, he’s ready for the best chapter of his life. He doesn’t need anything fancy—just someone who will love him, keep him by their side, and show him that his forever family was worth the wait. Interested in adopting Chewy? Story
Moose recently spent some time a foster family. Here is what they had to say about this big (102 pound!) boy:`Moose is a fantastic family dog. He`s incredibly happy to be around people. He`s a great shadow for whatever his people do.He just wants to be a part of everything. He`s incredibly smart and intuitive. He figured out potty bells to go outside in under 3 hours. I`ve never had a dog pick it up that fast. I`ve used a puzzle feeder with him. He actually uses his nose and doesn`t try to rip the tiles off. First day we started on `sit,` `down,` and `stay.` It all clicked fast. By day two, he`s doing all three for my little girl from across the room without food. He`s very gentle about taking treats, especially with kids.He doesn`t counter-surf or beg. First day home we`re making dinner and we put him in a `down-stay` outside the kitchen. Only one time did he try to come in. Pointed back at his spot and he went right back. He has been really respectful of my older dog. She told him how close was too close and he hasn`t pushed her on that. He`s happy to let her eat first and get the pick of the dog beds. She`s happy to have him follow her around the yard and curl up next to her. I`ve had no worries leaving them together for any period of time. He`s been great with my cats. He`s interested in being social with them and will watch what they do. The cats are less interested, but he won`t corner them or chase them. When they hiss, he backs up. The brave cat came down to sniff him and he nosed her gently. He`s a den dog. He slept in the laundry room the first night. From the second night on, he`s slept under my bed. I`d definitely recommend he get comfortable with a crate. He loves riding in the car and going to the hardware store. Everyone there wants to pet him and tell him he`s handsomeWe took him to trivia night last night. He was interested in other dogs; but, didn`t chase or bark. He figured out `leave-it`. pretty quickly. For the most part, he was pretty content to just sleep on my foot. He met many other people who were happy to pet him and give him treats. He loved it. He was super gentle with little kids and would nudge them for more attention.Zoey`s family brought her to trivia as well. They definitely remember each other. He did big play bows with her and rolled over so she could sniff his tummy. All play signs, zero signs of any s
