Looks like: Labrador Retriever mix Female, 8 years old (estimated), 69 pounds Magnificent Mihla is a sweetheart with lots of love to give! She has these mesmerizing eyes full of wonder and adorable floppy ears that really make her stand out. Miss Mihla enjoys spending her time going for car rides or long walks, playing surgeon with squeaky toys, alerting her fosters about squirrels and birds that dare to cross her path, and attending training regularly to work on building up her leash manners. This lovely lady would be ideal for a home where she can be the star and not have to share your attention but she may also fit right in with a household that has a mellow dog who doesn't mind sharing the spotlight. Due to how excited we have seen her get around prey animals we suspect she may not be ideal for a household with cats. We have not seen how she is with children. The SPCA of Monterey County reached out to us for help because Mihla was becoming increasingly stressed in the shelter environment. She was a favorite among many volunteers who worked with her there, so how could we resist?

Meet Mia, the labradoodle! This 4 year old spayed female came to the Shelter after her previous guardian were moving and unable to continue caring for her. Mia has some good basic life skills down as she knows sit, paw, up and lay down and she’d love to bond with her new family by continuing to learn through positive reinforcement based training. Mia’s favorite activities are being outside and playing. She has done well riding in a car. She has lived with children ages 8, 13 and 16 years old and did well. At the Shelter, Mia has been a little nervous and unsure. She seems to be sensitive to changes in her environment, people and animals around her. A home that will give her an adequate decompression time and be patient with her in the transition will be the best fit. Mia has met other dogs at the Shelter and has coexisted with them in the yards at the Shelter sniffing around. Although inexperienced at this time, Mia may do well in a home with a neutral dog provided there is a slow, thoughtful introduction. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw!Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Rhyno-18 month old black lab blend. Neutered- Hi! My name is Rhyno! I’m an 80 lb. neutered lab mix boy that’s 18 months old, full of puppy energy, and up-to-date on all my vaccines and preventatives. My biggest goal in life is to please my person, so I learn quick. I’m house and crate trained, and walk well on a leash. I live to give kisses and to receive belly rubs! In short, I’m a big lovebug! In Texas, I was picked up as a stray with a broken jaw. The shelter tried to stabilize it but was unsuccessful. After a couple of months in the shelter, my jaw healed on its own, albeit a bit crooked. My foster mom says it gives my face character. I enjoy other dogs, but a home with small children probably wouldn’t be a good fit for me as I don’t realize how big I am. Will you give me a forever home to love and be loved in? Meet Gordon! Gordy came to us during one of the hardest moments of his life. His family, facing heartbreaking circumstances, was told he would be euthanized if surrendered to a local shelter. Desperate to save him, they reached out to rescues — and we said yes. And we are so glad we did. Gordy is young, happy, and full of love. He didn’t deserve to suffer — and despite everything, his gentle heart is still wide open. He’s a sweet, slightly shy boy who has lived peacefully with three small dogs and truly enjoys the company of other pups (he has a soft spot for Chihuahuas!). He’s crate trained, potty trained, and wonderfully well-mannered — the kind of dog who quietly fits into your routine and your heart. Right now, Gordy needs a little extra care. He’s battling severe allergies, a skin infection, and a serious ear infection — one of the toughest we’ve seen. We’re doing everything we can: medicated baths, vet visits, treatment plans, and lots of TLC. Even through discomfort, Gordy remains patient and kind — he even gave his vet a kiss at his very first appointment. Currently, Gordy is staying at a boarding facility. He is safe — but this isn’t where healing truly happens. He needs a foster home where he can rest on soft bedding, feel warmth, and experience stability. A home environment will help his body recover and allow his sensitive spirit to feel secure again. Underneath it all is an incredibly loving, loyal, and smart dog who is just waiting to bloom. Tebow turned 1 in December. He has been with us since he was 8 weeks. We purchased him from a breeder in Tracy, CA. He is incredibly loving, and like a true GSP, is part human and doesn't understand personal space. He loves being under blankets. Tebow is also very intelligent and energetic. He is great off a leash, we are working on a harness for walks.
