Story
Looks like: Labrador Terrier mix Male, 8 years old, 35 pounds This perfect-sized pooch has lots of energy to burn and is always on the go. If you are looking for an exercise buddy, Billy is your dream match as he absolutely loves being active, playing fetch, and going for extended walks at a good clip. While he walks very well on leash most of the time, he is not a big fan of fast moving objects (motorcycles, or bicycles zooming by) and he will occasionally lunge at them. Billy loves snuggling with his humans and sitting on laps, pretending to be much smaller than his compact 35 pounds. Although he is often a bit timid when meeting new people, he eventually warms up and makes friends, especially if treats are involved. He gets along well with other dogs, sniffing and getting sniffed politely, but he is not really interested in playing with fellow canines. This silly guy has a lot to say at times and may bark at delivery trucks or any car pulling into the driveway, as well as at people walking by outside; he will stop barking once the "intruders" have been acknowledged, though. Similarly, on car rides he occasionally barks at motorcycles or people in cars stopped next to "his" car. Billy would appreciate a calm and predictable home environment; a household without children and cats would suit him best. What he wants most of all is a companion who enjoys being active and affectionate as much as he does. He would appreciate some training and reassurance to become less vocal. This pup is on a special diet for GI upset and is otherwise very healthy. Billy joined POMDR when his senior guardian moved into assisted living and was unable to bring him along.

Story
Looks like: Labrador Retriever mix Male, 10 years old (estimated), 55 pounds Finn is a sweet goof who wants to be where the people are, whether that means accompanying his human companions to the local brewery or lazing about on the couch. This sweet senior is a stop and smell the roses type, not super enthusiastic about going on long walks and prefers more of a sniff stroll. This lovable guy is working on managing his on leash reactivity to other pups but we are very excited to share the tools of his continued success with his potential adopters. Finn doesn't mind coexisting with other dogs but can get cranky if he's bumped into. His foster home has a senior cat that he doesn't really express interest in. Sweet Finn joined POMDR from Santa Cruz County Animal Services after he was found as a stray.

Story
Looks like: Labrador Retriever mix Female, 7 years old (estimated), 56 pounds Magnificent Mihla is a sweetheart with lots of love to give! She has these mesmerizing eyes full of wonder and adorable floppy ears that really make her stand out. Miss Mihla enjoys spending her time going for car rides or long walks, playing surgeon with squeaky toys, alerting her fosters about squirrels and birds that dare to cross her path, and attending training regularly to work on building up her leash manners. This lovely lady would be ideal for a home where she can be the star and not have to share your attention but she may also fit right in with a household that has a mellow dog who doesn't mind sharing the spotlight. Due to how excited we have seen her get around prey animals we suspect she may not be ideal for a household with cats. We have not seen how she is with children. The SPCA of Monterey County reached out to us for help because Mihla was becoming increasingly stressed in the shelter environment. She was a favorite among many volunteers who worked with her there, so how could we resist?

Story
Looks like: Lab Mix Male, 10 years old (estimated), 80 pounds Wiley isn't particularly wiley at all. This sweet giant is more of a couch potato than anything else, and he's looking for a fellow potato partner. This big, beautiful boy spent much of his life outside and is only now growing accustomed to the comforts of home. And it's very clear that he loves them. Give Wiley a comfy spot on the couch after a short walk, give him all the pets and kisses, and he'll be your best friend. This poor sweetheart was confined to a yard for most of his life, but despite the scant interaction with people and animals, he's a sweet, gentle guy who gets along with anyone he meets. Wiley does well with other dogs and has done well with cats in the past, but he would do best in a home without children, as loud noises and quick movements can sometimes frighten him. He recently had several teeth removed and is learning to eat without canines. He's also recovering from a skin condition and may need medicated baths for a time. Wiley's former guardian moved into assisted living and was unable to take him along.

Story
Looks like: Lab, Australian Shepherd mix Male, Female, 2 months old (estimated), 4 pounds This adorable group of puppies are ready to land in their forever homes and start their lives with their very lucky next families! Their mama, Shadow, had an unexpected litter of puppies to the surprise of her senior guardian. Due to the guardian's own medical needs, she was unable to provide the pups with the care they needed. The papa dog has been neutered so there will be no more unexpected puppies. And mama Shadow will get spayed once the pups are weaned. Shadow and her pups are currently in a POMDR foster home. Shadow will go back to her guardian when the pups no longer need her. The puppies will be 8 weeks old on August 3. Mama is a Labrador mix who is about 60 pounds. Dad is smaller at about 45 pounds and seems to be an Australian Shepherd/Catahoula mix. The puppies will be medium to large-sized when fully grown. We ask that you give as much detail as possible on your questionnaire about the qualities you are searching for in your next family member. Our staff will use this information to do our best to assist in matching you with puppies that align with what you are looking for (more outgoing, more social, more cuddly, larger, smaller, active, couch potato, etc). We expect to get many more questionnaires than we have puppies! We ask that you please be patient with us while we go through all of the applications and make the best matches. Please understand if you are not selected that we have only so many puppies to go around! Adopters will need to commit to a $905 initial investment to adopt a puppy from POMDR: $305 for the adoption fee, $300 for a refundable spay/neuter deposit, $300 for a refundable training deposit. The spay/neuter deposit will be reimbursed once the dog is altered at the POMDR clinic (at no cost to the adopter) or we receive proof of alter from another clinic. (Adopter must pay for the full alter if done at an outside clinic.) The training deposit will be refunded once we are presented with proof that the puppy is enrolled in a training class or working with a private trainer.
