Story
Meet Samwise!Samwise is a 3-year-old boy with a gentle soul who is learning, every day, how to be a little braver. He can be shy at first and takes some time to build trust, but with patience and kindness, his true personality begins to shine. Once he feels safe, you’ll see his fun, goofy side peek through, and it’s absolutely worth the wait.Samwise would do best as the only dog in the home, where he can soak up all the love and attention without feeling overwhelmed. He has previously lived with cats and done well, making him a good fit for a feline-friendly household. Because he’s still building confidence, a home with kids ages 10 and up would be ideal so he can have calm, respectful interactions as he continues to grow. This sweet boy is looking for a loving, understanding home that will give him the time and space he needs to feel secure. In return, Samwise will reward you with loyalty, affection, and those endearing, silly moments that make him so special. If you’re ready to help a deserving pup come out of his shell, Samwise is ready to meet you.

Story
Drax is a sweet good natured dog. He is just over 5 years old. He is 71 pounds and strong. He loves people, kids and attention, loves to be petted. He likes to play and hang out with the family in the same room even if he is sleeping, which he enjoys doing a lot. He would probably be best as the only pet for your family. He has not had much dog training due to moving a few times. He knows Sit and Stay and I believe he very trainable due to his love of treats. I hope you will be able to give him a good loving home as he deserves that.

Story
Introducing Liz!Liz is a 5-year-old sweetheart who is currently thriving in her foster home and absolutely loving the good life. She’s settled in nicely and has shown that she prefers to be the only dog in the home, where she can enjoy all the attention to herself. That said, she’s doing wonderfully around the horses and donkeys in her foster setting! She’s calm, respectful, and unfazed by her larger farm friends.Liz is on a weight loss journey and is doing great, especially because she’s very treat motivated. Snacks are the way to her heart, and they make training, bonding, and encouragement a breeze. Overall, Liz is a laid-back, easygoing girl who knows how to relax and enjoy the quiet moments. Her favorite place? Curled up in bed for cuddle time with her people. But don’t let her chill vibe fool you, Liz is also happy to lace up (well, metaphorically) and join you for walks, outings, and low-key adventures. She’s the kind of dog who fits right into your routine, whether that means a cozy night in or a nice stroll together.Liz is looking for a loving home where she can continue to feel safe, spoiled, and adored. If you’re searching for a loyal companion with the perfect balance of calm and companionship, Liz might just be your girl.

Not good with cats,
Story
Hi, I'm Merida! I'm Grand River's 4-year-old cutie. I'm a lab-shepherd mix with the funniest ears that stand up but aren't quite shepherd ears. I do like larger dogs with a proper meet-and-greet but little dogs and probably cats are going to be a pass. When it's just me and my person though, I'm a great girl! I know how to sit and have pretty good leash manners already, plus one of the volunteers has learned that I'm very eager-to-please and pick up tricks rather quickly. I learned "focus" in under 30 minutes where I have to watch my person for a short period of time. Treats seem to motivate me more than toys do right now and I'm very polite while taking them. I'd like a calmer environment for my new home but wouldn't mind some older kids to romp around in the yard with or someone who has a lot of friends coming over, I always love new friends. Story
Hi, I'm Bubbles and I think I'm the prettiest girl at the party! I've got a very typical lab personality despite being trapped in this small body and would absolutely love another canine friend or kids to be able to run amuck with. I'm quite playful with volunteers, especially when they start playing first. I am also just a girl who needs her cuddles. I sure do love my chin and ear scratches, sometimes giving some happy grumbles and sighs to let you know that I'm enjoying your attention. I am brushing up on my leash manners and learning that "sit" means "stay still while sitting" so that way I can be the perfect pint-sized girl for you. I'd thrive in any home that you can think of as long as you're willing to love me! Im a little too interested in cats, so Id need a home without one. We do not see Adopt-a-Pet inquiries! Story
Hi, I'm Amanda- Panda! Im an absolutely cuddle bug and I LOVE hanging out with my people. If you like wearing mismatched socks, I think im the girl for you because I'm always wearing mine that way too! Even my ears don't match, but that just makes it better. I already know how to sit and im a very treat-motivated girl, making it easy for me to learn new things. I'd thrive in just about any house especially once I come out of my shell more, but I'd love to be a part of an active family that will take me on adventures once it warms up! Or strap on a coat and let's go do some winter exploring! I haven't adjusted well to being in a high stress shelter environment so I can be a little weary in strange situations. I will probably do really well with kids once I decompress, but right now I think that having older dog savvy kids would be the best fit for me or even a family with no kids would work too! We do not see Adopt-a-Pet inquiries! Please visit our website www.grandrivershumane.org to fill out an adoption application and learn more about our upcoming adoption event locations.
