Story
Alina and Alma just recently came to us from JAX Animal Care and Protective Services where they were turned in as strays. They are likely Lab/Hound mixes and should be around 50 pounds each when full grown. They are very sweet and outgoing girls. They love kids and love to run around the house and yard. These girls are smart, but they are still learning and will need further work on their housebreaking, crate training, and leash skills. The girls are fine being separated, but would really love new homes where there is another dog to play with if possible. We hold adoption events each Saturday at PetSmart (3736 SW Archer Rd, Gainesville, FL 32608) from 11am until 5pm; we do not have a public facility. This is the time to meet our adoptables and potentially take home your newest Faithful Friend. Our adoption fees vary and are cash, card or Venmo but include spay/neuter, heartworm test (dogs), FeLV/FIV test (cats), age appropriate vaccines and deworming, flea, tick and heartworm medication and microchip. All of our adoptables are already spayed or neutered prior to adoption.

Story
Hello there, I am Crocs! I am a groovy, quirky older fellow who will always keep you laughing! I am a collector of toys and will hoard tennis balls, and if I hear you squeak one of my toys I will prance up to you, remove it from your clutches, and return it to its proper place on my bed. After I sniff every inch of you and determine you are a good egg, I will back my booty up to you and ask you to give me scratches. My back legs go crazyyy when I start getting good back scratches! Even though I still have lots of pep, I also settle down so nicely and love to take long afternoon snoozes. I know sit and seem to be fully housebroken, and I'm so gentle when accepting snacks. I thought the younger whippersnapper dogs were annoying before, but I'm starting to loosen up in playgroups and can actually be a silly goose myself. I would love to spend my golden years with my own collection of toys and a big ole cozy bed, so please make me the king of your castle! Let's meet today!

Story
My name is Finn, and your name must be My Best Friend! I'm a stunning labby boy with eyes that will melt your heart. I did not come from the best home before, so it can take me some time to get comfortable in new situations and with new people, especially men. I have spent some time in a temporary home, and I was housebroken, learned sit, stay, and come, and I usually walk well on a leash. I worked on building back some of my confidence and now love going on car rides, long walks, and playing in the water. I'm still meeting new dogs but have done well with dogs that are smaller than me and have actually done okay around older children, I'll just need to work on my confidence around men and feeling secure when I'm home alone, so crate training would be a huge plus for me. Let's meet today!

Story
Wait a second...I'm picking something up here on my scanner.....I'm sensing that....my adopter is reading my bio right this very second! I'm Radar, a labby-esque boy with a knack for determining if someone is going to love me, and I just know it's you. My last home wasn't the best, so I'm still figuring out how to navigate new situations, but it doesn't take me long to get comfy and show you how silly I am. I've learned how to play with toys, how to sit, and that chest rubs make me sleepy. I'm also doing well walking on a leash, though I may awkwardly bounce around you to show my excitement and might stop and sit on your feet when I need a cuddle break. I'm also opening up more during playgroups and meeting new dogs, and I did well with the dogs I lived with previously. I may need a brief refresher on potty training while I'm settling into a new home and supervised outside time (I can climb chain-link if I'm left by my lonesome), but I'm so food motivated and so eager to please you it shouldn't take me long to settle in. Let's meet!

Story
Updated 12/3/2023: Sioux (pronounced "Sue") is a sweet, silly Lab/hound mix girl. She was born in late June 2022 and is very friendly. She weighs about 60 pounds - and is probably fully-grown now. (We do not know her exact breed mix.) The adoption fee for Sioux is $200. She has fully recovered from her spay surgery, and has been microchipped and is fully vaccinated. She's receiving monthly flea and heartworm prevention - and had a recent fecal (negative) and heartworm test (negative.) Sioux did fantastic with crate training as she recovered from her spay. She's very affectionate and is quite fond of peanut butter. We've working with Sioux on leash walking - she loves to explore (and choose her own direction) and will need some continued training - but she will pee on leash. Her ideal home would have a large fenced yard so she can sniff, explore and zoom. (She has not been introduced to young children or cats.) Sioux has a brother, Jackson, also currently available for adoption. If you want more information about Sioux, call or text Jody at 352-316-5155 or email her at SCRWestLevy@gmail.com. Thanks for your interest in adopting - and for your patience as we are an all-volunteer rescue! (We do keep our posts current! Sometimes we have to repost a pup when an adoption falls through. Thanks for understanding.) - - - - - PS. Second Chance Rescue posts our pets on AdoptAPet.com. While we are grateful that AdoptAPet shares their information with partner sites, including Overstock and PetHarbor and others, we don't have any control over how frequently those partner sites update their content. Story
Scrappy is a resilient 1-year-old boy, weighing 50 lbs. He overcame a tough history with skin issues and hair loss due to poor care. Today, Scrappy has blossomed into a healthy, handsome and playful young man with a beautiful new coat. His transformation includes newfound confidence, a joy for life and exploration, an outgoing nature, and a love for play and affection. He enjoys playing in his wading pool on a warm or hot day! He absolutely thrives when playing with other polite dogs and getting hugs from us humans, both big and small. We do not have any information on how he is with cats, but we always do meet-n-greets with potential fur siblings to ensure that all get along. Scrappy, the "cuddle bug", is ready to bring joy to a loving family. If you would like to meet him, message us here or call 352-528-9888 to set up an appointment to meet this adorable soul and witness his heartwarming journey of recovery and love.    April 29, 2024, 12:19 pm

Story
Meet Hadley! This delightful little girl is estimated to be around a year old and a charming 43 pounds. She joined us after being found with her puppies who went on to be adopted through another rescue. Initially shy and scared, Hadley has since transformed into a playful and affectionate companion. We are working on manners training as she is still quite an adolescent herself and became a momma very young. She's happily playing, learning her manners for walks on a leash, and showing love to all the wonderful people she meets. Her training will need to be re-inforced in her new home. Hadley is going to make a wonderful fun, loving and active companion as she matures and learns her place in the world. Hadley is making doggie friends and becoming quite social. She adores human attention and playtime. She walks nicely on a leash also. While we have no info on her feelings for cats, we'll be testing that too. If you're ready for a meet-and-greet with this sweet girl, reach out here or call 352-528-9888 to set up an appointment. Hadley is ready to bring joy and love into her forever home!   April 29, 2024, 12:19 pm

Story
Darcy is a lively black lab mix most likely, around a year old and weighing 58 pounds. After caring for her adorable puppies, Darcy is now ready to embark on her own adventures. She's embracing her newfound independence, loving to run, play, and explore. Darcy is leash walking quite nicely and has a keen nose for interesting scents. Although occasionally distracted by sights, sounds and scents, she's a boisterous and fun-loving gal. She's starting to make some doggie friends but we have no info on how she is with cats, so that would need to be trialed. If you're ready for an active and playful companion, call 352-528-9888 or message for more details.  April 29, 2024, 12:19 pm
