Story
OKAY friends. What we know... SMOKEY is a purebred Silver lab recently surrendered to our care - 1 -1/2 years old. SMOKEY needs to be your only dog and prefer someone who can train dogs. Surrendered when his prior older owner went through some traumatic losses of loved ones and could not provide the care and socialization he needed. She stated that he would go after the older dogs in the home and she could not handle him - could not offer reasoning why. We believe SMOKEY picked up on owners high stressful anxiety and became aggressive with the other older dogs in the home, not permitting them near her and resource guarding. SMOKEY is a large dog apx 75-90lbs. Has not been around any children - so we believe NO children. Prior owners vet refused euthanasia and recommended training with a professional. Thus reasoning why we are reaching out to see if there may be a qualified professional trainer willing to help. What we have observed. Seems to know some basic commands, Protective of "his" people which we now are. Was adopted as a puppy from a local breeder. Does not care for other dogs here - largely ignoring them unless they go too close to the front of his cage. Did go off on a dog when a staff member was handling that said fearful dog in front of his cage and was believed to be protecting staff. Goes outside to potty when his kennel is open. Has NOT Any issues here with all female staff. Has been in our care since January 16th.
