Story
SMOKEY is asking for a miracle. SUCH a great dog in our care and very accepting of our staff. OKAY friends. What we know... SMOKEY is a purebred Silver lab recently surrendered to our care - 1 -1/2 years old. SMOKEY needs to be your only dog and prefer someone who can train dogs. Surrendered when his prior older owner went through some traumatic losses of loved ones and could not provide the care and socialization he needed. She stated that he would go after the older dogs in the home and she could not handle him - could not offer reasoning why. We believe SMOKEY picked up on owners high stressful anxiety and became aggressive with the other older dogs in the home, not permitting them near her and resource guarding. SMOKEY is a large dog apx 75-90lbs. Has not been around any children - so we believe NO children. Prior owners vet refused euthanasia and recommended training with a professional. Thus reasoning why we are reaching out to see if there may be a qualified professional trainer willing to help. What we have observed. Seems to know some basic commands, Protective of "his" people which we now are. Was adopted as a puppy from a local breeder. Does not care for other dogs here - largely ignoring them unless they go too close to the front of his cage. Did go off on a dog when a staff member was handling that said fearful dog in front of his cage and was believed to be protecting staff. Goes outside to potty when his kennel is open. Has NOT Any issues here with all female staff. Has been in our care since January 16th. IF you think you can offer SMOKEY the professional home he needs and have no other dogs, Please send us an email to animalcontrol@osceolacountymi.gov OR find us on facebook and send a PM to Osceola County Animal Control - or give us a call at 231-832-5790. We are located in Reed City, MI and will be very selective where and whom can adopt for obvious reasons.

Story
Hi. I’m Marley. Two years old. Sixty pounds of sunshine wrapped in a Labrador-shaped body. If friendliness were an Olympic sport, I’d be on the podium wearing a gold medal and kissing every judge. I love people. Big people. Little people. People who throw tennis balls. People who don’t throw tennis balls but should reconsider. Playtime? Yes please. Fetch? Absolutely. Zoomies? Buckle up. I’ve got that happy-go-lucky Lab energy that turns an ordinary Tuesday into a backyard carnival. Now, I do have one small request for my future kingdom. I’d prefer to be your one and only furry superstar. Other dogs just aren’t my thing. I like my spotlight nice and undivided. And I’ll need a fenced yard so I can stretch these legs safely and show you my award-winning sprint form. In return, you’ll get: • A loyal shadow • A professional cuddle consultant • A daily dose of laughter • And a heart that is 100% yours If you’re looking for a best friend who greets every day like it’s a celebration, I’m already packing my imaginary suitcase. Love, Marley If interested, please call the shelter at 231-861-5395 and leave a message to be placed on this dog's adoption list. No obligation, but it reserves your place in line on the list. The shelter will contact individuals as they appear on the list. The adoption fee is $95 and you receive certificates for $50 towards spay/neuter and $10 towards rabies vaccine if not already done. All dogs are heartworm tested, receive a DHLPP, flea and tick treatment, and are dewormed.

Story
Winnie is a pretty four-year-old female Lab/Pit mix with lovely manners and is good with children. She’s also very proud of her nice, white socks! Poor Winnie is so confused. She doesn’t understand why she’s back at the shelter after years with her family. Unfortunately, Winnie had a run-in with the other family dog, so she’s probably going to be best as an only pet.

Story
Nothing fancy about Loomis. Just a good old hound dog / lab mix looking for a nice place to land in his senior years. Loomis is a lab-hound mix about eight years old and very mellow. He was turned in when his owner did not have enough time for him. Loomis gets along just fine with dogs and cats, and he’ll make a perfect couch potato!
