Story
RCHS does not conduct DNA tests on dogs who enter our facility therefore we are unable to guarantee breed or breed mix. Information provided by shelter staff, volunteers, and veterinarians is used to give a best estimate as to a dog’s breed make up. We do our best to inform adopters about the potential breeds for each dog.We are a dog only facility so we do not know how most of our dogs will be with cats. Even if a dog is surrendered to us and said to be good with cats there is no way to be sure the dog will be good with your cats. We do have a 7 day foster-to-adopt program so that you can see how the dog interacts with your cats before adoption.

Story
🌈 Meet Rainbow Brite! 🌈Rainbow Brite is a small-to-medium-sized momma dog who came to us with her eight precious babies and did an amazing job raising them. Now that her mom duties are officially over, she’s ready to enjoy life as just a dog—one who gets to soak up love, attention, and the comfort of a home of her very own. 💕She is around 1½ years old and weighs 24 lbs. Rainbow Brite is believed to be a mini Labradoodle, and whatever her exact mix may be, she will need regular grooming to keep her coat healthy and comfortable. She is fully grown and will not get any bigger, though she may gain a pound or two now that she’s finished nursing.Rainbow Brite rides well in the car and is happy in the back seat or the front seat—and if you’re not careful, she may even try to ride in the seat with you. 🚗😄 She does have a big bark that she uses to let you know when someone is at the door, making her a good little alert dog at home. She takes a bit of time to warm up to new people, so she will likely never be a social butterfly or enjoy being in the middle of large parties. That said, she’s perfectly content relaxing in a quiet, safe room during busy gatherings. Rainbow Brite enjoys stuffed toys, though she firmly believes they should not stay stuffed for long. 🧸😂Rainbow Brite walks on a leash and enjoys going out, though she has no concept of walking in a straight line—her strolls are more of a gentle zig-zag adventure.Sweet, loving, and ready to bond closely with her people, Rainbow Brite is looking forward to a future filled with walks, couch cuddles, and being someone’s best girl. 🌈🐶✨ What we’ve learned from her weekend foster stays: ✨Rainbow Brite has spent two weekends in a foster home with our director, and she truly shined in a home environment. She is fully house trained and will hold it until taken outside—easily managing 8–10 hours. She can be left alone in a room and does not destroy items, bark, or whine when her people are gone or overnight. She is a velcro-style pup who loves being close to her person and may whine a little if separated by a gate. Because she likes to stay right by your side and can get underfoot, she may not be the best fit for someone with balance or fall-risk concerns. Once settled, she’s a champion couch snuggler and loves relaxing with her people. 💞Rainbow Brite tends to warm up to women a bit faster than men, but with patience and gentle handling, she does adjust and continues to gain confidence. She responds best to kind, calm guidance and does not do well with harsh corrections—she’s a sensitive soul who truly wants to please. She has met dogs of all sizes, from tiny 2.5-lb pups to a 157-lb gentle giant. Larger dogs take her a little longer to warm up, but if they are polite and not too pushy, she does just fine. She’s also a clean girl who grooms herself, though as a mini Labradoodle, she will still need routine professional grooming. ✂️🐩If you’re looking for a loyal, gentle, affectionate companion who just wants to be near her person, Rainbow Brite may be the perfect match. 🌈🐾Rainbow Brite is:✔️ Vaccinated✔️ Flea & tick treated✔️ On heartworm prevention✔️ Heartworm & Lyme negative✔️ Microchipped✔️ Will be spayed prior to adoptionIf you’re looking for a young, affectionate dog who’s ready to leave mom life behind and share all her love with you, Rainbow Brite may be your perfect match. 💖🐶Rainbow Brite's adoption fee is $250.You can apply on our website www.highlandhumanesociety.org OR stop into the shelter 12- 5 pm Monday through Friday or 11 am to 3 pm on Saturday to meet who is available at that time. Please arrive no later than 30 minutes before we close to ensure we have time to do the adoption.

Story
Dancing boy Bart does the cutest happy dance when he is excited! He loves taking sniffy walks and enjoys lounging around in a big yard. Watch his ears bounce as he trots along beside you. He is a big, senior guy who won’t require much in terms of burning energy. Mostly Bart just wants to hang out. He likes to keep his things (toys, treats, bedding) to himself, so he will certainly need a forever home that can be careful around coveted items. The best kind of home for Bart: Bart is a big goofy guy who would ideally love to be the only king in his castle. Although he could potentially live with select dogs, he needs an adopter who can separate him from other animals in the house during meal times or when he has a special chew, toy, or valuable item. This could look like giving him his own room to eat/have special bones in or putting him in a crate. He is chill guy who would do well in a laid back home. He has lived at LV for more than years, so time to adjust will be essential for this handsome guy!
