Story
Say hello to your new lapdog! Stretch is a shy, sweet boy who LOVES attention. He is still recovering from being in the scary animal shelter, and is cautious in new places and with new people. But once he gets to know you, he doesn't want to be anywhere else. He is one of the rare dogs who like to be held like a baby, with his long tummy up and available for pets. His dachshund body fits perfectly in the crook of your arm. Stretch enjoys walking on leash and gets along with other dogs, although he can become possessive of his human's lap. He is a very sensitive boy - a single scold works to discourage unwanted behavior. We are working on potty training, and he is learning quickly.  Stretch would do best in a quiet house with a family who is patient enough to let him come out of his shell at his own pace. Watching a rescue dog slowly open up and learn to feel safe again is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have, and the dog will never let you go a single day without knowing how important you are to them. Grateful Dogs Rescue incurs substantial veterinary an d other expenses in rescuing our dogs. In order to recoup some of these costs, we request a tax-deductible donation for each adoption. The suggested donation for Stretch  is $300. If you are interested in adopting Stretch, please complete our online adoption application at https://www.gratefuldogsrescue.org/adoption-process/ . One of our volunteers will get back to you. Adoptions are local, confined to the SF Bay Area. Story
Rembrandt is a perfect potato, with fur the color of toasted coconut and an adorable frosting face who has landed in Muttville just in time to find his perfect home for the holidays. He’s a little shy but warms up quickly (especially if you have a treat or two handy – it’s remarkable how brave the shy seniors become when enticed with a bit of chicken!). Rembrandt is a politely personable dog, although not always keen to initiate introductions, he’s very receptive to well-mannered mutts. He’s the perfect snuggle-size, so if you’re looking for someone to join you on the couch during these cold winter days, Rembrandt might just be the dog for you! Here's some notes from his foster: Rembrandt started out a bit shy and is blossoming into a socially friendly, open and flexible little gentleman. His temperament is so mild and wonderfully gentle. House training is going well, he is learning to use pads and he is proving that if he is taken out regularly for bathroom breaks there will be zero accidents. I have a twenty pound standard dachshund and Rembrandt and Buster have the perfect dog relationship: friendly and ambivalent toward each other simultaneously. Rembrandt happily shares Buster’s toys without incident. Both dogs share my small 250 square foot studio apartment and there is no aggression, only happy tolerant dogs that enjoy each other’s company. Rembrandt on walks does not pull the lead and keeps a good pace. He’s great on busy Market Street and loves quiet side streets too. I live near the Laguna Street apartments and he enjoys seeing regular resident friends on our walks there. Rembrandt is confident and comfortable around wheel chairs and walking assistance devices and is calm when people lean down to offer him pets and love. Many people comment on Rembrandt’s brown eyes and friendly openness. Rembrandt spends a good part of the day napping with my dog and being a calm gentle presence in my home. Love this dog!!

Good with kids,
Story
GitHub is a mix of Jack Russel terrier and dachshund, and he combines the best of both breeds. He has the sandy brown color and compact potato-shaped body of a dachshund, adorable facial structure of a Jack Russell (which just a dusting of sugar showing his status as a distinguished gentleman), and the floppy chocolate ears of both breeds. GitHub is a friendly boy who ambles about looking for a sniff here and there; he’s getting along well with the other dogs (and people!) at Muttville with his polite manners and upbeat spirit. This portly gentleman has been searching for his forever home, and he’s considering potential families – if you’d like to throw your hat in the ring, come meet this sweet senior today! Here's some notes from his foster: He’s great in the car. Though he’ll ask at the outset if he can come forward, when told no he settles in the back seat. Now he’s charging up stairs, with a very endearing hop. Lots of good, long walks seem satisfying. Many different dogs sniffed without incident. Very friendly meeting new people when on a walk in my experience. Barky through the window as people approach the front door, but happy and friendly when he meets them inside. Rarely, he’ll be surprised by something and offer a bark or two, but never seen him lose control over anything on a walk. Normally fine with strollers, loud trucks, bikes, etc. Have not seen him interact with a cat, but he doesn’t react to them, or squirrels or birds for instance, on sight. Similar to his crawl into a blanket nature, he’ll sometimes crawl under hedges on walks… to see what only short-legged dogs can see. He no longer follows me everywhere all the time in the house, content to know I’m around mostly. Still learning how to have me walk away from the house without him, but making progress in little steps. He sleeps still and quietly all night on his own little dog pad and under his own cozy blanket at the head of my bed. His ideal would be to have my pillow. His resting mode usually involves tucking at least his nose if not his whole body into something. He’s very sweet and gentle in my experience and a very good looking boy.
