Story
If you’ve ever wished for a hiking buddy who can also binge-watch TV like a pro, Tod might just be your guy. This 7-year-old Chihuahua/Shetland Sheepdog mix is a short-legged, pointy-eared, corgi-lookalike who proves that dynamite really does come in small(ish) packages.Let’s get the basics out of the way:Housebroken (he’s got better manners than most people you know)Crate trained and actually likes his crate (his man cave) Leash trained (polite walker, occasional opinions about other dogs)Knows “sit,” “paw,” and “kennel” like a champNot a fan of small children or chaosTod’s Ideal Home:Tod is looking for a home where the humans are fully grown and can respect his personal space. He’s a bit of a connoisseur when it comes to animal friends—he can coexist with cats (on his terms) and is dog-selective, preferring either to be an only child or live with a chill canine roommate who doesn’t get in his business.A Note on Manners:Tod is basically that friend who’s a blast to hang out with… as long as you don’t touch their fries without asking. He guards his food, toys, and personal space with the confidence of a small dog who knows exactly what he wants. He can be reactive to other dogs on leash, which means he’ll let you (and the neighborhood) know when he has Big Feelings. At the vet or during invasive handling, Tod prefers to wear a muzzle—not because he’s mean, but because he’s a firm believer in personal boundaries. Think of him as that person who says “I love hugs” but means “only when I initiate them.”If this guy sounds like the guy for you, and you’d like to take Tod home, please fill out an adoption application at this link – https://animalalliesrescue.org/dog-application. The adoption fee is $150 and covers all expenses needed to prepare dogs like this one for their forever homes. By the time you meet them, they’ve already been spayed/neutered (if age-appropriate) and microchipped. They’ve been checked by a veterinarian and are up to date on necessary vaccinations, including Rabies and DHLPP. They have also been tested for heartworm and tick-borne diseases and have started heartworm and flea preventative medication. Some of our dogs have even undergone extensive medical care to ensure they’re ready for a happy, healthy life with you!

Story
OSKAR Breed: smooth dachshund Age: 8 years Weight: 15 pounds Adoption Fee: $375 Vetting Status: neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccines, dewormed, heartworm negative and maintained on preventatives, recent dental ~~~~~ OSKAR is a sweet & sassy wiener who is looking to settle into a furever home. He is a professional snuggler & loves most humans, just no small ones please! Oskar's hobbies include sleeping under covers, sunning himself on the deck, watching TV & batting his BBE's (big brown eyes) at you for any snacks you may want to share? Canine minions are cool and chilln' with his foster fur-brother is fun. However, very large dogs or hyper-happy alpha types who want to be all up in his face are not Oskar's cup of tea. Oskar did have some injuries from his prior life when he came to rescue, but has fully recovered & ready to go home. His canine dentist (ok, vet) also says his teeth are in great shape. He is housetrained and leash trained, loves to go on walks, & ride in the car. Oskar is okay with crates, but much prefers hanging around the house & would LOVE to snuggle with you in the "big bed" at night if allowed. Oskar would be suited to apartment living provided you agree to carrying HRH (his royal hound-ness) up & down any stairs, as all nobility should be! P.S. If you think OSKAR is the dog for you, please fill out an adoption application today! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ OSKAR is available for adoption through K-9 Rescue of the Eastern Shore. An adoption process is required to include filling out an online adoption application available at the following link -- https://www.k9rescuees.org/info/adoption Veterinary and personal reference checks, and a home visit/meet-n-greet are required PRIOR to being approved to adopt. The time frame for completing this process depends largely on how quickly references respond, your vet office is able to speak to us (some want written permission first), your landlord or HOA (if applicable) confirms their approval for a pet, & how your schedule aligns with that of our volunteer(s) for the Home Visit. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ PLEASE NOTE ~ All of our rescue members are volunteers with many obligations. While we may not be capable of immediate response, we will respond to all inquiries and application submissions as soon as possible. Thank you for thinking adoption! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ #dachshundsofinstagram, #adoptme, #brokennomore, #sausagedog

Story
Meet Tex – Your Loyal Little Lookout! 🐾 Tex is an approximately 2-year-old Dachshund/Chihuahua mix (or at least that’s our best guess), and he’s the perfect blend of small size and big heart. This sweet boy came to us from a rural shelter where he was very shut down and scared. Since arriving in his foster home, Tex has truly blossomed into a much more relaxed and confident pup. Now that he knows he’s safe, Tex enjoys the comforts of home life: lounging around, following his humans, and hanging out with the other dogs in the house. He’s also curious about the cats, though if they dart off too quickly, he might give a bark or two to let them know he noticed. Tex is an excellent little alert dog who takes his job seriously. If something unusual is happening around the property or if a sneaky squirrel dares to raid the bird feeder, Tex will sound the alarm. He’s got a great nose for mischief and will keep your porch squirrel-free. Tex would thrive in a calm, low-activity home where he can build a strong bond with his adopter. Once he knows he’s safe and loved, he’ll likely become your loyal little shadow. Tex is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccines and preventions. Please note: Tex is only eligible for local adoption in the San Antonio area at this time. It took him several months to fully warm up in his foster home, and we are hoping to find an adopter nearby. If any issues arise, we want to ensure we can easily bring him back into our care. If you are in the San Antonio area and looking for a sweet and loyal companion, Tex might just be the perfect fit. Go ahead and submit an adoption application for him now! $200 Local Adoption Fee
