Story
#### Lacy is a gorgeous 7 year old grey and white Lhasa Apso. She weighs 15 pounds. She loves other dogs and is good with large puppy parties with lots of people, but is more of an observer than a player right now. Most of our dogs come in not knowing how to play so not playing now, does NOT mean she won't love it in the future. She is a calm girl who sticks close to her dog friends in the yards. She is easy to catch to bring to and from the play yards but is squirmy with being held so extra care needs to be taken to keep her safely in your arms. While dogs are her safe haven, she is shy with people. Thankfully, she observes and sees others going up to people for treats and has started getting in on that action herself. She will walk up to anyone and take gently tossed treats. Hopefully she will start taking treats from people's hands that she knows soon as that is a next great step, but we are letting her set the pace. Its much less often, but if we go too quickly she still, on occasion, will fear pee. Her new pet sibling will be very helpful in helping Lacy learn to walk on a leash and get more exercise. Lacy needs a calm, predictable environment with patient adults who will let her grow at a rate she is comfortable with. Watching dogs like Lacy become family members and settle in, no matter how long it takes, has its own special joy. If you have another calm dog and a securely fenced yard with a 4 foot fenced yard, we hope you will apply to meet Lacy at NMDR.org. - - - - - -Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization. As a result, there is often an adjustment period when learning about life as a family pet. We typically do not adopt to homes with young children. Homes with older children will be considered on an individual basis. Common skills such as house training and leash walking will often take a little extra time. Patience, understanding and a gentle hand are a must. The great news is, most of these dogs come around rather quickly and being a part of their rehabilitation is an extremely rewarding experience. Story
#### Meet the sweetest little girl ever, Buffy. When she first arrived at NMDR, she was covered in painful mats and couldn't see because her bangs were covering her eyes. She was scared of everything. She is feeling so much better now that she has been groomed. We affectionately call her Grublet (a cross between a grub and a piglet). She comes up to people she knows for pets. She can be pretty anxious around strangers and is still afraid of being picked up. She loves squeaky toys and they are a great way to bond with her. She walks on leash, so long as the coast is clear of strangers, and it is not too windy outside. Buffy will need a patient adopter who is willing to work with her on overcoming her fears. She will need a home with no children under the age of 16 and a 4ft fence to keep her safe and secure while she enjoys some sunshine. She might be okay in a home as a single dog, but would also do well with a calm dog sibling or two. She can be a little choosy with her dogs friends.
