Story

At just about 5 years old, Kiki finds himself in the shelter as a surrender.  He is definitely NOT happy about his recent change in circumstances and is nervous and defensive right now.  He certainly shows signs of potential to come around with some love and patience.  Right now, no small kids for Kiki's new forever family and he may need a few visits to acclimate to his new humans prior to adoption.  If you are the perfect match, it may just be love at first site when you meet each other! All Perth Amboy Animal Shelter residents will be fully vaccinated, spayed/neutered and microchipped prior to adoption.  You must be 23 or older to adopt from the shelter, complete an Adoption Application and pay the associated adoption fee.  The application must be approved by the shelter staff and all adoptions are finalized based on the best interests of our animals.  Come visit us Monday - Friday between 10am and 4pm and Saturday/Sunday from 10am - 3pm.  Contact us at (732) 324-3877 and don't forget to ask about our Foster Program!April 11, 2024, 2:36 pm

Story

Lido is 13 and a Lhasa apso. He is a little shy but is ok once he gets to know you. He seems to be getting more mellow in his older age and not so high strung. He sticks to himself and I wouldn’t trust him around children- I’m not sure how he would react to one tugging at him or getting in his face.

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Pepper (AL) is a male Lhasa Apso mix rescued in Alabama. Our veterinary partner estimates that Pepper is 3 years old at the time of intake in October 2023. Pepper is good with adults and other dogs. This little guy was brought into rescue in a neglected and abused condition. His fur was incredibly matted and soaked in urine. We don’t know how long Pepper suffered in that painful condition, but we’re only looking forward to Pepper’s happy future. Pepper has been shaved down and all of the mats removed. He is a sweet boy but understandably shaken and scared at what his life has been and unsure of what the future holds for him. He’s now pain free and on the path to recovery, but we recommend a quiet home without small children as Pepper needs some space that small children cannot give him. Neville, 8 years old and Shadow 10 years old are also! They have lived together with the same family, who at this time, find they can no longer care for them. Both dogs are friendly, enjoy cuddles and belly rubs, have wonderful temperaments, get along with cats and other dogs, and are very good with children. Shadow may bark at squirrels, birds and the occasional falling leaf…which quickly stops when he’s told what a good boy he is! He loves to run around the yard, and spends the night either in his crate or in bed with his brother and human. He is very sweet. Neville also loves hanging out outside with Shadow or napping in his crate or bed. The only time he barks is when he gets excited to play a game of tag with Shadow or if he has to go potty outside. Like his brother, he enjoys cuddles and belly rubs, and rubbing his booty makes him wiggle his butt. Neville and Shadow are bonded pups looking for a home together... Bailey is a sweet senior dog that just wants to be loved. He has had a rough couple of months, but things are finally looking up for him! He was surrendered to a local shelter when his owner couldn’t care for him any more.. his eye was in rough shape and the vet determined it was best to remove it. Who knows how long this poor boy was in pain? Only having one eye doesn’t stop him from enjoying life, in fact he’s so much happier now that he’s no longer in pain (his hair will grow back. He was shaved around his eye for surgery).  He’s about 20 pounds and around 12 years old, but he doesn’t like to think so. He likes to frolic in the yard and enjoy sniffing and exploring. He also enjoys leisurely walks. He is trained and can be left out without accidents when you are not home. He loves to sleep in bed with his people at night. He will also sleep on a dog bed in your room if you prefer. He gets startled a bit with new folks or if you approach too quickly so would be best with older children. He is a bit too curious with cats so would probably be best without one in the house. He would love to be the king of your castle as an only dog. He is not aggressive with other dogs, but we think he would prefer to be your one and only. He is a very sweet boy, loving boy who deserves a soft landing after all he has been through.
