Story
Meet Huck- a sweet friendly boy who loves to say hi to everyone he meets! He’s about 8 months old and around 15lbs. He’s a Lhasa Apso mix (we think) who grew up with other dogs. He loves to snuggle up to his people, but he’s also a fun little boy who LOVES to play with toys. He’s crate trained, but needs to work on leash walking- but we think he’ll get the hang of it soon! He just received his first round of vaccinations, so will need to complete their series. Any resident dogs must be spayed/neutered and UTD on vaccines. If you are interested in adopting please fill out an adoption application!

Story
Kenny is being fostered in VA.Kenny is NOT BLIND!Kenny arrived at rescue in June 2026 like a little spark — small, scruffy, and full of hope. Today, hes a joyful, wiggly, toy chewing, rope tugging, people loving pup who lights up his foster home. This 13 pound, one year old shih tzu (maybe with a dash of mystery mix) was found as a stray in Ohio. After the shelter suspected concerns about his vision, he traveled to Virginia to join the Blind Dog Rescue — and surprised everyone by seeing just fine! What he really needed was comfort, care, and a fresh start.Kenny settled in quickly with the resident dogs and is learning the art of polite play. Hes housetrained, crate trained, and sleeps quietly through the night. He trots beautifully on leash unless a squirrel dares to appear, in which case Kenny becomes a tiny, determined explorer. Hes a great car buddy, too.His favorite foods? Purina One with gravy for breakfast and dinner and then, for snacks, he enjoys peanut butter, tiny dog treats, and, his favorite: chicken jerky! Hes a shy eater at mealtime who waits for his humans to step away before he begins.Kenny has been thoroughly vetted: ear infections treated, Giardia resolved, skin improving (still a bit flaky), bloodwork and vision normal, teeth lovely. The vet staff adored him.His front legs are a bit bow-legged and he has congenital hip dysplasia with a left cruciate injury but, after a Librela injection, hes moving much more comfortably and with better stamina. During the first couple of weeks in his foster home, he sometimes favored his left leg but he has not been noted to do that anymore even before the first Librela injection he began to use both hind legs symmetrically. Hell need monthly Librela and an adopter willing to partner with their vet to address any mobility issues if they arise in the future. He can manage a few steps but should be carried on full staircases. And, when carried, his foster mother said he feels like a squishy teddy bear. And usually she gets a kiss from Kenny when he is in her arms.Kennys one big nope: cats. He becomes intensely focused on the foster homes cat and wants to chase, so he must be adopted into a cat free home. He hasnt lived with children and so should join adults or families with older kids.Kenny is still a puppy — bright, sweet, and ready to learn. He needs a home with structure, patience, and lots of love. If youre looking for a joyful little companion with a huge heart, Kenny is waiting for you.BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.

Story
Linus is being fostered in PA. He is SIGHTED.Linus is an approximately 4-5 year old, SIGHTED boy who is very sweet and quiet. He loves the humans in his foster home, his adult foster mom, but has a preference for her 7 year old granddaughter who visits often. He gets along with every dog he’s met (young, senior, male, female, big and small) and is very indifferent with cats, letting them completely alone. Linus does not seek out dogs to cuddle or play with but lives very well with them.Linus does demand respect from dogs by growling when they, literally, get their face close to his. He has never bitten, just a growl. He may be part billy goat the way he can climb and scale gates. For a while he preferred to sleep on top of his open crate rather than inside. He would not settle for being separated in order to get used to his foster home so since his foster siblings are experienced with fosters coming and going and he could scale the gate, he integrated into his foster home very fast and fortunately did well.Linus is an escape artist and cannot be trusted in his fenced in yard without being on a leash. He heads right toward the slatted gate to try to get through, which he can still do until he puts on a little more weight. He has gained over 2 pounds but still needs to gain more. He loves to be outside and is very good at trying to scoot out open doors. This is how he got away from his first family to be found by animal control.Linus does very well with pottying outside but he doesn't always have the opportunity to go out because of his drive to get out of the fence. It is anticipated that he will quickly regain his potty skills. He even goes to the door to wait to have a leash put on when she is not at work.Linus has some health issues that we are still trying to figure out. He came to his foster home with severe skin issues and swollen paw pads. There have been huge improvements with his skin inflammation but we are now waiting for the results of a recent allergy testing. His fur has started growing back nicely but he needs to wear a shirt at all times to protect his body when he scratches. He gets a medicated bath about once every 4-5 days and is on a limited ingredient food and homemade bone broth which is very healthy. He is currently on 2 medications. He has also had issues that seem to be in his sinuses that cause him to have discharge from one nostril. A dental issue has not yet been ruled out. He refuses to let the vet (not his favorite person) take a good look at his teeth .Linus will be on medical hold until we have more definitive answers to his conditions but please know that he is a very sweet and fairly young boy of 4-5 years, with no vision issues, who would make an amazing companion. He would do well in a home with or without other animals but needs a home with a family who can be very vigilant to make sure that he does not run out the door, climb over, under or through barriers to escape the safety of his home and property. Please know that you can still put an application in for Linus and when his medical conditions are under control, he can be yours following our adoption process!BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.
