Story
Meet Zatoichi (zaa·tow·ee·chee), a fun little Lhasa Apso mix who is about 9 years young and weighs around 23 pounds. Zatoichi, affectionately known as Zat, is a snuggly boy who arrived as a stray in July and, surprisingly, was never claimed. Lucky for you because now he is looking for his forever home! Zat is housebroken, neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and truly the full package. His favorite things are simple and cozy, a warm pool of sunshine, soft belly rubs, and being near his people. He does well with other dogs but would prefer a cat-free home. Although we do not know what his past held, we do know he would be happiest in a home without children under about 15 years old. Zat enjoys a good playdate, and afterward he is perfectly content to curl up by a window for a little people (and squirrel) watching. We know his perfect match is out there, so please share his story far and wide and come meet him any day except Wednesday, between 12:00 and 4:00. Could your couch be the cozy spot Zatoichi has been waiting for?

PLEASE VISIT THIS WEBSITE TO FIND THE ADOPTION QUESTIONNAIRE: http://www.homewardtrails.org/adopt-a-pet/adoption-forms/ HOW TO MEET THIS ANIMAL: Fill out the application and we will follow up with you! We will connect you to his foster! LOCATION: Foster home ADOPTION COORDINATOR: Sue B (sueb@homewardtrails.org) ADOPTION FEE: $615 ESTIMATE WEIGHT FULL GROWN: 16 lbs ESTIMATED AGE: 6 yrs KNOWN WITH DOGS: Pooh can live with other dogs but is a bossy little man. He’s likely best suited to be an only dog OR to live with a docile, understanding, non-reactive friendly dog who won’t challenge him and will let Pooh be Pooh. KNOWN WITH CATS: We are told he’s a bit barky with cats and may chase them so he will need a no-cat home. KNOWN WITH KIDS: Pooh will need an adult-only home. KNOWN COMMANDS: Pooh knows to come immediate for TREAT and knows how to SIT. He’s a very smart boy and will benefit from ongoing training! KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: We think Pooh is housebroken but he’s had several accidents in his foster home, we believe due to him being stressed about losing his family and his routine. He does NOT like being crated and becomes upset. But he has shown no destruction when left alone, so he does well not being crated. He can be barky at first when left alone though, so we think he’ll do better in a house vs an apartment. KNOWN LIKES: Poor loves to be in charge – and may bark a lot to show that. He LOVES treats and he loves belly rubs and going on walks. KNOWN DISLIKES: Pooh hates the vacuum cleaner and will attack it. He does not seem to like fast moving objects like bikes and motorcycles and runners – he seems to think he’s a Border Collie. He also does not like being crated. So a suburban home will be better suited for him than a city home. ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: POOH is as cute as he can be. But he’s not for everyone. This little guy has had a rough-ish life we think and ended up at a full nearby shelter when we learned about him and decided we needed to give him a chance. Poor needs an adult-only home and definitely prefers females over males – but we think with the right people he can live with both. He LOVES treats and comes immediately when you say the word TREAT loudly and he quickly sits on command. He loves walks- but gets worked up by bikes, motorcycles and people running so a quieter neighborhood would suit him. He loves walks and truly enjoys cuddling with his human and getting belly rubs and kisses. He is said to have a history of resource guarding but we have not seen that yet and have taken away treats, food and toys easily especially when offering a treat swap – which is always the way to go. He does seem to bond with one person and can be barky/protective/guarding around other humans – but this can be easily worked on by using treats and sharing feeding/treat/walk duties. He can live another dog but it would need to be a docile dog that lets Pooh be bossy and not react. Poor generally shares his space nicely but can be bossy. Pooh will definitely bark and intimidate visitors so a quieter home will be better. No kids in the home is best/required. Experience with bossy barky dogs preferred.
