Story
Meet Maeve! This sweet girl didn't have a great start to life. She came to us incredibly matted - so matted that it was painful, she couldn't see, and every touch was terrifying because she couldn't see it coming and didn't know what was happening. She's only about 18mo old. With how matted and overgrown she was, she had probably NEVER been groomed. Considering she is a maltese/yorkie mix, you can imagine how that must have looked/felt for her.Maeve is, understandably, wary of the world. She's only about 12lbs and the world is ENROMOUS and there is a lot that she doesn't understand. It's not her fault. She's just a baby and there are so many things she's never been exposed to and so many experiences she's never had. Getting her used to walking on a leash was a process but one of our dedicated staff members has taken it upon herself to make Maeve her "project" and Maeve has come a long way!Maeve will need a family that has the time and patience to invest into her. They will need to understand that she can and will snap/nip out of fear so going slow with her is a MUST. She does well with other dogs (bouncy, high-energy dogs do spook her so calmer, low-key dogs would be best) and she does well with cats. We are looking for an adult only home but older teenagers should be fine.Once Maeve trusts you, she's a velcro pup. She just wants to be inside of your skin with you. She'll snuggle up in your lap, you can pick her up, touch her all over, etc. You just need to put in the work to get to that point with her.To apply, visit foreverpaws.com and click adopt to download our application. Story
Okay, listen.Lady is NOT the easiest dog - at least, not at first and not for the wrong person. You give her an inch and she takes a mile. If she senses hesitation or fear, she WILL take advantage of it and act out until she gets her way like a literal toddler. She will probably get snappy if you push her boundaries too hard and too fast. She will steal the bracelets right off of your wrists. She sheds. She will try to take you out at the kneecaps. She's partially deaf. She's A LOT.But the way this dog LOVES? It's with her entire heart and soul. She loves hard. She loves fiercely. She is loyal and devoted and will worship the ground you walk on. No one will EVER be happier to see you than she is. She's the kind of dog that will imprint on you like a baby duck. She's the kind of dog that you can call your soulmate because the connections she makes with people? Unmatched. Once this girl bonds with you? There's no breaking that bond. She needs time and patience. She's already been done the disservice of being promised time and patience only to be given up on less than 24 hours later. She doesn't need that kind of heartbreak again. If you're firm and consistent with her and you make it clear that you won't tolerate her shenanigans, guess what? HER SHENANIGANS STOP. She's a boundary-tester. She's an envelope-pusher. But if she respects you and you respect her? She stops testing you.Lady Luck is good on a leash and LOVES her walks. She's a fetch expert and pretends she's not. She's good with other dogs and wary of cats. She does not like kids - she's done her time with them and she's over it (probably why she doesn't like her mustache/beard touched at first). She loves car rides and she loves water. She's a 35lb bichon mix. Mixed with what? Sunshine, that's what.Literally all Lady Luck wants is to be with her person. That's it. She does have some separation anxiety which may dissipate as she starts to settle but crate training is recommended. To apply, visit foreverpaws.com and click adopt to download our application.
