Since then, she has been cared for at our partner shelter, and she spent this past summer, from May through September 2026, in a foster home.Personality: Bird is a dignified girl with a sweet, affectionate side. Her favorite way to say hello is to rub her body against the person beside her, and she loves having her rump scratched. When someone comes to her kennel in the morning, she waits calmly and patiently. Nothing in particular scares her. Her energy level is low. New people, places, and objects don't get much of a reaction from her, but if something catches her interest, she'll walk over to check it out. When she's on her own, she spends her time sleeping and resting.Compatibility: Bird doesn't react much to new people. When someone interests her, she'll walk up to them and quietly look up at them. She treats men and women the same. She prefers adults and doesn't enjoy being around young children. She isn't a big fan of being held and would rather rub up against you while sitting by your side, though she doesn't mind being picked up or petted. She has no sensitive spots that bother her when touched.Bird hasn't lived with cats before, so we can't say for certain how she'd do. Knowing her easygoing nature, though, we think it's possible with a slow, gradual introduction, plenty of patience, and enough space for each of them to have their own retreat while they get used to one another.Bird gets along well with small dogs. She doesn't pay much attention to other dogs, but she enjoys a calm companion she can rest beside, snuggled up close. She shows no guarding over food or toys.Behaviours & Training: Bird is trained to an indoor puppy pad and rests quietly in her bed. She hasn't had much experience walking on a leash or harness. In the car, she stays calm in her crate, and she behaves well at the vet. Bath time, nail trims, and brushing all go smoothly. She has no chewing habits and knows her name. She'll bark briefly at mealtime, but her voice is so sweet and small that it's never noisy. She shows no signs of separation anxiety and lies down to rest comfortably when left alone. She isn't food motivated at all.Health & Diet: Bird is spayed, microchipped, dewormed, and up to date on all her vaccinations. She takes a monthly parasite preventative. She had surgery in May 2026 to correct luxating kneecaps in both back legs. She's fully recovered and has no trouble running around. Life at the breeding farm took a toll on her teeth, and she has no teeth left. Even so, she has no trouble eating and happily finishes her soaked kibble mixed with wet food. She has no allergies, digestive issues, or skin problems. She is healthy and ready for her forever home.Ideal Home: Bird would do best with someone who works from home or is retired, so she isn't left alone for long stretches and has company throughout the day. A quiet household suits her best. She would also do well in a home with a senior dog or one or two gentle, well mannered dogs. Since she prefers adults, a home without young children is a better fit. First-time dog owners are more than welcome. Bird is an easy, low maintenance girl who doesn't need any special experience, just patience and a gentle touch.After a hard start at a breeding farm and a year of healing, Bird is ready for a calm home and a person she can snuggle up beside every day. Whoever adopts her will be getting a sweet, gentle companion who asks for very little and gives plenty of quiet love in return.
