Story
Luke is a 2 year old white male Maltese. He weighs about 10 lbs. He was surrendered by a local breeder who is downsizing his kennel. He is shy but does warm up quickly. He was surrendered matted so had to be shaved down. He was very calm and patient being groomed. He loves being with other dogs and is cat friendly. He would do best in a quiet, patient home and would love a small dog sibling. He is microchipped, neutered, dewormed and up to date with shots, deworming and flea prevention. Story
Trixie is a 10 pound, senior malti-poo, we believe 10-12 years old, who is going to need someone very special. She has been through more than any dog should have to endure. Trixie's previous owner developed dementia, and somehow this little girl ended up living on her own in a trailer for an entire month. When she was finally found, she was in shocking condition. Her coat was severely neglected and matted, and she needed emergency grooming to find the 'dog' underneath all that filth. After what she's been through, for who knows how long, it's no surprise that Trixie is still trying to figure out if she's safe. Today, she looks like a completely different dog, but emotionally, she's going to need lots of time and love. Trixie spends quite a bit of time pacing, although she doesn't appear particularly distressed. We're currently trying Prozac to see if it helps her settle and feel more comfortable. Every now and then, we get a glimpse of the girl underneath it all. She'll suddenly get a little spunky or break into a few zoomies, which is pretty encouraging. The harder part is that Trixie hasn't shown much interest in bonding with her foster parents yet. She's not seeking out attention or cuddling. Instead, she prefers her own cozy corner where she can sleep and feel secure. Her foster dog friends and the resident cat don't bother her, and she's been perfectly fine sharing her space with them. She does have some accidents in the house, but they're manageable with frequent, consistent potty breaks every couple of hours. She can hear and see, but does have some impairment with both.  Trixie also had a dental, and nine more teeth were removed. She has a significant heart murmur, rated 5 out of 6, although her veterinarian is hopeful that it may improve, or potentially even disappear, now that her severe dental disease has been addressed. Despite everything, her blood work was excellent with no red flags. Trixie isn't going to be the dog who runs into your arms on day one. She may not become that dog at all. What she needs is someone who can give her a safe place, a predictable routine, and the freedom to come out of her shell on her own terms. Her adopter will need patience, compassion and realistic expectations. She has already survived a very difficult chapter. Now we're looking for a rescue angel willing to give her the quiet, secure life she should have had all along. Trixie requires professional grooming every 6 to 8 weeks. If you have a groomer referral, please include it with your application. If you have additional questions about Trixie, please email 4leggedlayover@gmail.com Adoption Fee: $150, which includes spay, a dental, microchip, vaccines, and current prevention.
