Orville Buttersworth looks like a stuffed animal with the soul of a slightly cranky old man, and honestly, it only makes him more lovable. He believes couches are made for cuddling, hands are made for scratching his booty, and other animals are perfectly acceptable as long as they understand that personal space is sacred. He is sweet, funny, particular, and completely content doing life at his own pace. We believe he may be a Maltese/Shih Tzu mix, but with animal rescue, breeds are always a mystery and never an exact science! Orville is dog friendly and has spent time around dogs of many different sizes and personalities. He is not looking for a best buddy or wrestling partner because playing with other dogs simply is not his vibe. He is perfectly happy peacefully coexisting, hanging out nearby, and doing his own thing. Other dogs do not bother or stress him, but he appreciates companions who understand when he would like to be left alone. He also met our house cat Biggie and was appropriate and respectful around him. Orville did not chase Biggie or seem bothered by him jumping around and doing typical cat things. Biggie felt comfortable around Orville too! We do not know whether Orville has ever lived with a cat, and this was our first time seeing him interact with one. If you have a cat at home, we can arrange for Orville to have a sleepover with a cat upon request. Just let us know! Orville is crate trained and remains comfortable and quiet in his crate. He is potty trained for the most part and has been most successful with frequent potty breaks. He enjoys treats and takes them gently, but he has not shown much interest in toys. He would much rather collect scratches and cuddle beside his person on the couch. Orville cannot see very well, so he may flinch or become startled if someone grabs or reaches for him too quickly. Going slowly and allowing him time to understand what is happening helps him feel safe. He can also be a little clumsy at times, so a home without stairs or with minimal stairs would be the best fit for him. Orville is looking for a comfortable couch, patient people, respectful animal roommates if there are any, and someone who understands that booty scratches are an essential part of his daily routine. Meet Chino! Chino is a 5-year-old Maltese looking for a calm, patient home where he can be someone’s one and only. This little guy is learning what it means to be loved and cherished — and while he may be shy at first, once you earn his trust, he’ll give you his whole heart. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. If there is only one food bowl available, he may try to keep the other dogs away from it. Even dogs who appear calm and well-behaved in foster care or at the rescue are still adjusting and learning. The rescue environment itself also does not always allow for extensive one-on-one training. While we work hard to provide safety, structure, socialization, and basic guidance, adopters should expect to continue support and guidance after adoption.
