Meet Hamish!Hamish is a 3-year-old Shih Tzu/Maltese mix with a soft, fluffy coat and an even softer heart. At just 10 pounds, he`s the perfect size for lap snuggles, couch cuddles, and being your constant companion. This sweet little guy absolutely loves people and thrives on attention and affection. He has had some small seizures and on medicine to control this, He has had no seizures since starting the medication. He also has had a broken jaw that has not healed perfectly, but that has just stopped him from chewing on hard bones. If you`re looking for a dog who wants to be close to his humans, Hamish is your match. He`ll happily soak up pets, cuddle beside you, and remind you every day how much he loves being part of a family. Hamish makes you laugh all day. He sleeps on Foster moms bed on his back, paws splayed out. He`s very responsive to his name, although he was just given it when he came into OFOSA. He knows basic commands (come, go stay, sit). Hamish is also a social butterfly. He gets along well with other dogs and cats and enjoys making new friends wherever he goes. Despite his tiny size, he likes to act like a tough guy when he`s out on walks, strutting along with confidence and personality. Walks are one of his favorite activities, and he loves exploring the world by your side. Hamish is still working on his potty training and will need a patient adopter who can help him continue learning good habits. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.    The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.  While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs.   It doesn’t stop there!
