Story
Fontenot is a Miniature Long Haired Dachshund puppy and may be a little shy at first, but once he knows you he will be your shadow. He will always go wherever you go. He likes to play although he still doesn’t know much about some of the toys. He loves to sleep in warm places. He is a great little boy. Fontenot arrived very fearful. He likes the corners of places, and he feels safe there. He has not managed to sleep in his bed. As for sleep, there are days when he sleeps all night and days when you stop at dawn to explore and play. He still has accidents inside the house, most of the time he manages to do it in the yard. He goes out several times a day. Inside the house he wears diapers and although sometimes he goes in them other times he does it outside the diaper. He is not sure about children yet. When they approach to caress or touch him, he is often not interested and isolates himself. Putting on a leash has not been to his liking either, no matter how much we motivate him to walk he does not want to do it. He is afraid of other dogs, they attract his attention but when they approach him or pass by him he gets too nervous. He does well in a car and is food motivated. He is a shy little guy but is also so sweet. -----

A Quick but Important Note to All Adopters:
Please remember that none of our dogs arrive fully trained. Most come from tough or uncertain beginnings and may have never lived in a home or known basic routines. That means:

✧ They are not potty trained on arrival. Most dogs regress in potty training when moving to a new environment.

✧ They may lack basic manners (like leash walking or appropriate chewing).

✧ They’re learning, growing, and doing their best—but they will need patience, structure, and compassion to succeed.

The majority of these pups have lived in the confinement of a cage or kennel run for most - if not all - of their lives. Because of this, we strongly discourage the use of crates for anything other than vehicle transport. They deserve the chance to decompress and learn what true freedom and comfort feel like.

Our amazing foster homes work hard to start these dogs on the right path, but they are rescues, not finished products. These dogs need time, consistency, and a loving home willing to meet them where they are.

Also, breed designations are our best guesses based on appearance and behavior. We can't guarantee breed, size, adult weight, or coat type.

Story
Flambeaux is an adorable lazy, dachshund puppy. He just sleeps or hangs out with a chew toy most of the time. About twice a day he launches himself like a spring and gets the zoomies, running back and forth and jumping on furniture. He is still a bit skittish of people, but very tolerant of being touched or picked up when he is comfy. He loves belly rubs, though he's not quite ready to admit it. Right now the biggest challenge is that he is not comfortable walking on a leash at all, and is very scared of getting picked up when he is outside in the open. He's quite lazy and not treat motivated, so training has been slow. In the meantime he loves looking out the window and smelling the fresh air. He is also an escape artist and will jump out of his pen when left alone. He loves to explore! He sleeps quietly through the night in a pen in the bedroom. He will bark at night if he is confined in another room. He has been using potty pads just about perfectly. Outside potty training will wait until he is comfortable on a leash or can go out in a yard. He is well behaved, but he is a super athletic escape artist and can jump over a 2ft pen wall. He will bravely leap off furniture and loves to climb up high. Puppy proofing will be important for his safety! He is good with other small dogs and cars, but don’t know about cats. He is so adorable and funny! Watching him bloom is a joy and he will continue to grow so much more. He has an exceptionally calm and quiet temperament, unlike what you would expect from a 9 month old dachshund, although every once in a while he remembers who he is. He’s adorable! -----
