Smurfette is a lovely 4-year old female Labrador Retriever mix who was brought to the HSOV on May 3, 2024 by a Good Samaritan who found her on State Route 7 in the Reno Ohio area along with none other than Papa Smurf (a small male Miniature Pinscher). Neither of the pair were wearing a collar. Papa Smurf was microchipped but, unfortunately, the microchip was not registered. Smurfette has a black short smooth coat with unique white markings on her chest/throat, white paws, a long tail, and a beautiful face with dark brown eyes, a dusting on white on her muzzle, and large floppy ears. This little sweetheart has a rather demure, affectionate personality. Thanks to HSOV Volunteer Tracy Lynn for accompanying Smurfette for outdoor glamour photos on the afternoon of May 4th 2024 and for showering Smurfette with extra lovings. Smurfette looked to Tracy for self confidence and guidance, and she loved hearing 'what a good girl she was' and 'what a good job she did posting for her pictures'. Smurfette weighs 51 lbs. She doesn't appear to have been accustomed to walking on a leash, but she did herself proud and took 'baby steps' to walk beside Tracy. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Smurfette will be held for three days so that her family will have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership.

We don't know what his life has been like to this point.  He is a sweet boy who was only able to trust his handler and became "clingy" once he did.  Odie is very affectionate & is starting to come out of his shell. He is housebroken, crate trained with no barking, walks on a leash & has learned sit, stay, down, wait & leave it so far. That's a lot for such a withdrawn little fellah to learn in six weeks, so he's shown he is willing to learn, eager to please & a pretty smart guy! He doesn't particularly like other dogs & has trouble interacting with them. He would probably NOT be a good fit in a home with children!! Odie is very protective of his environment & the people in it, so he will bark if strangers intrude. Once he's met someone & knows he isn't in danger he is a very affectionate boy. He needs to learn how to trust people, play with toys & just be a confident, happy boy. If you have it in your heart to give him some time, patience & love, you could help this lil guy blossom into a great pet! Parker and his sister Cassie had a rough start to life before coming to DASH, so he's a little shy until he trusts you. He is currently in our Dash Prison Training Program where he will be learning basic commands, confidence building and becoming more social, especially with men. He does best with women since men are a little scary to him still, but he is learning they're not all bad. His trainer says Parker does better one on one than he does in more active, crowded environments, so this is a consideration. He is still working on being fully housebroken but was doing great and using the pee pads in his foster home.
