Please read the bio in full for answers to your questions. In the event you have a question that is not covered in the bio, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/. Please note that because all our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be about within an hour of Wilmington, DE for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in-person home visit. Meet Flora! Flora is a 6-year-old, 18 lb. Poodle mix who was rescued and brought to a shelter as part of a cruelty investigation. Partially paralyzed and suffering from chronic infections, this sweet girl needed a second chance. Flora was treated for her skin infections and a UTI. She had an extensive orthopedic workup, and it was determined that she will most likely not regain the use of her back legs. That being said good luck keeping up with this pup! Flora loves her wheelchair and zooms around in it every chance she gets. She can also scoot herself around the house with no problems. Flora is able to go to the bathroom without assistance but does wear a diaper. It will need to be changed several times a day. Paralyzed pups can be more prone to UTIs, so good hygiene is important and there may be some extra trips to the vet. (She does great at the vet) To help prevent urinary infections, Flora takes supplements and probiotics that cost $45 a month. Due to her sad start in life, Flora tends to be wary of new people and experiences. She will give a bark and try to leave the room. If her family goes slow with her, and lets her take her time, Flora will thrive. She is good with other dogs and would do best in a quieter home with no small children. Flora loves to be cuddled, picked up, and play with toys. She is happy sleeping in a dog bed and can play independently as well. One look in those big, brown eyes and your heart will melt. All Flora needs is a family that sees how special she is, and that a little extra work is nothing compared to the love she will give you in return. Please apply today!

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Please read the bio of the rescue you are interested in to insure you are a match if you are a match the first step is to complete the online adoption application  Asher is a cute little miniature poodle with lots of spunk. He came to our rescue from a breeder due to having a medical issue.  One of his back legs fused at the stifle joint.  He doesn't let him stop him as he does zooming everywhere. We did take him to an orthopedic specialist to determine what if anything could be done.  The surgeon evaluated him and decided that there was no surgery to correct his issue.  They believe he will be fine and told us to start him on joint supplements now.  Other then that there was nothing else he needed.  This boy has lots of energy and loves his toys.  He has been started on crate training he has good days and bad to be honest. So will need further work. Started on leash with a harness and he has been doing pretty well with it.  He is up to date on age appropriate vaccines,  dewormed. Also microchipped.  He is not yet neutered due to his size and age therefore there will be a $75neuter deposit required on top of his adoption fee. If you are interested in possible adoption please go to www.DelawareRescue.com and complete the online adoption application Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. If you are interested in adopting please read the information here and then complete our online adoption application. One of our volunteers will contact you once the application has been processed.  If this animal is listed as a courtesy posting for another rescue please go to their website to complete the online adoption application.     April 18, 2024, 8:01 am

Story
Meet cookie she is one of the poodles we rescued from the puppy-mill. Cookie is 6 years old and she weighs 12lbs. She was a mill momma most of her life. When she came to our rescue she was really shut down and scared. She is still working on trusting humans, she will sit on your lap and let you pet her for a little bit before she jumps off (which is progress). She absolutely loves dogs of all sizes. She went to the vet and was tested for hw and Lymes disease and was negative! She did have an ear infection which is treated with antibiotic ear drops. She also received her updated vaccines. She is spayed and had dental work done to remove her infected teeth last month. Cookies perfect home would have another dog she can learn from to teach her not all humans are bad. Cookie isn't ready for adoption until after her spay and dental work at the end of the month. but if you are interested in adopting her please send us a message and we will send you an application.
