Story
Gabe came to PCH so terrified of everything and everyone. This boy has opened up so much during his time here. It is purely a joy to watch him progress every day! It will take time for Gabe to accept a new person, but with time and patience, he will come around. He LOVES playing ball, going for walks, treats and snuggling up/wiggling around in his bed. He has the cutest hops when he is excited! If you have a quiet (adult only) home and patience to work with an animal who has been through so much, consider applying today for this more than deserving boy! All Pet Central animals are up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, spayed or neutered, microchipped (registration included), and current on parasite prevention. Dogs over six-months of age are heartworm tested. When adopting, we will ensure that you receive copies of veterinary and microchip records. If you are interested in this pet, please fill out the brief Adopter Survey by hitting "Apply for Adoption" on the profile. After we review your completed survey we will contact you by phone or email within three business days. We're primarily a volunteer organization, so we appreciate your patience. Please note- Out of respect for our volunteers and staff, we are closed on Sundays and Mondays and will not be processing any applications on that day. Do get back to us right away when we call or email regarding an application so that we can quickly connect using the process below: Select a pet and submit an online adoption survey. A PCH adoption counselor will contact potential adopters within three business days (PCH cannot guarantee any pet's availability, but we make every effort to accommodate adopters with a reply and possible alternative suggestions). Counselor and client will then have a conversation to answer questions, discuss any medical needs for the pet and determine the suitability of a match (if necessary, we may opt to put adopters in touch with foster parents). After a match is made, clients will be asked to sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee online through our secure payment system *Please see our modified no-risk return policy. (below) The PCH adoption counselor will then set up a specific appointment time and location. Adopters should bring a pet carrier and leash to pick up. Adult pets will be wearing a collar. It is important that clients arrive on time, neither early nor late. If your adoption is scheduled at Pet Central Helps!: Upon arrival inside the Crossroads Center complex (360 Wylie Drive), look for the black Pet Central Helps! semi-trailer, which is right outside of our facility (Suite 720). Park in the parking lot and enter the facility. A PCH representative will greet you and show you to the adoption room. Your new pet will be handed to you. We will take a "Happy Adoption Day photo with your pet and family. If your adoption is scheduled at PetSmart: Park in the PetSmart Parking lot and enter the store. We will be set up just inside the store entrance. Let us know you are here to pick up your pet! A PCH representative will confirm your information and hand you your pet. We will take a "Happy Adoption Day photo with your pet and family. PCH supports a 21-day no-fault return policy in which adopters are given the opportunity to find a better match. If we are not able to provide advice/tools to keep a pet in the home we offer these options: Exchange for a pet that may be a better match** Receive a refund minus a $40 processing fee** With this approach, we can often turn mismatches into opportunities! She would do best with another small dog or being an only dog as she likes to be the boss! Berkley is crate trained, leash trained and loves to ride in the car.She is wonderful to groom as well. She would do best with a young senior couple or person whom is active and whom has a fenced in backyard. She is a great watchdog too! Berkley is available because of my health issues HAE and as of 4/18/24 my son has cancer and just had tumor removal and will start chemo soon. We need to place a couple of our very loved dogs as our health issues have become so much for us to manage. Please feel free to call me if you want more info on berkley. Story
Leroy is an estimated 2 years old and 17 pounds of sass. Leroy can easily get overstimulated and does not know how to settle himself down so needs a committed owner to work on training and giving him quiet time when he gets too excited. He will snap or nip when asking him to do something that he doesn't want to do and can be a resource guarder. An owner will need to work with him on positive reinforcement and rewarding him with high value treats to get him to see things your way. He does well with laid back dogs but does not tolerate them in his face. He needs an adult only quiet home that will give him the time he needs to be to become the dog we know he can be. Leash Manners: Walks well on leash Basic Commands: Sit, down, shake Cat introduction in a controlled environment: no reaction, walked up smelled and walked away Good with dogs? eligible for dog intro Special NotesAdoption Fee: $100Estimated Date of Birth: 1/29/22Intake Reason: Transferred from Peoria County Animal Protective Services, original intake owner surrender, no longer wantedAnimal will be spayed and up to date on vaccines, and microchipped prior to adoption. If their kennel card on display at TAPS shelter facility is marked as unaltered, the animal will be altered prior to being released for adoption. Animal stage may change from time to time based on surgery and medical status. TAPS strives to keep kennel cards as up to date as possible with current information but from time to time, information may change and a new kennel card may be pending. Full and current vaccination schedule and medical records along with any behavioral disclosures will be provided at time of adoption.

Story
Meet Forrest he is looking for a very special and patient home. He is a 3 year old breeder release mini poodle about 9#. He is very scared and will need a home that is willing to put in the time working with him to bring him out of his shell. Right now he has a playpen that he “lives” in. The door is always open, but he prefers to stay in it, usually curled up in his bed. He has started exploring out about 3 feet and then runs back to his safe place when he sees someone watching. He does know when it is supper time and as soon as he sees his foster mom fixing it he will stand and do a little dance waving his paws. He doesn’t care about the other dogs one way or another. He is not potty trained, or leash trained. Please only apply if you are serious about putting the work in with him as he deserves a permanent amazing home. Forrest's $300 adoption fee includes his neuter, vaccines, heartworm test and prevention, flea/tick prevention, and microchip registration. Story
Visit leiashope.org for adoption process. What can be said about the cutest and smartest little guy? Padre is such a good boy with a wild side! He loves to play and drag foster mom's slippers around the house. He is great for baths and grooms, which are great qualities as he will need lots of those in his future! Padre is a good little snuggler and enjoys his one on one time with foster mom. He has started some skills on training and learning the clicker, but he still has a ways to go. Padre likes to come off as a confident and tough guy but he gets scared when the bigger dogs run past him and will cry like they hurt him. They haven't, he is fine, just a little scared. Since Padre was born in a puppy mill he missed the critical socialization window where he would have been exposed to new things and gain confidence, so his new family will need to work on positive experiences with him. Padre is looking for a playmate in his new home (kids or playful dog) as he has a lot of puppy energy. Another dog that is confident and playful will be a good role model for him and kids are just fun and great to wear a puppy out so mom and dad can get the benefits of sleepy cuddles! Padre's adoption is $500.Hei is neutered, microchipped, current on vaccines, dewormed, and on monthly heart worm prevention. Visit leiashope.org for next steps. PLEASE NOTE: We are a volunteer ran rescue with full time jobs. Please allow 7-10 days for application processing. All of our dogs are in foster homes and a meet and greet is done ONLY after an approved application. We do adopt out of the area. However, we do not ship or provide transportation. You must come to the location of the dog to meet and adopt. NO EXCEPTION. All family members and dogs must be present at the meet. Dogs are a commitment for THEIR lifetime. For puppies this could be 15 years. If YOU cannot commit to the lifetime of the DOG, please do not apply. Puppies under 9 months must go to a home where there is someone home frequently (works from home or a partner is home), can adequately socialize and train the puppy, and can keep up with puppy energy!
