For inquiries email donyea@compactcaninerescue.org Fee: $400 Location: Suffolk, VA Meet Remi Remi is a precious little girl who is just beginning her new chapter in rescue after coming to us from the Chesapeake Animal Shelter as an owner surrender. While it was a difficult decision for her previous family, its clear that Remi is ready to find a loving home where she can truly thrive. Though shes still new and were getting to know her personality more each day, one thing is already certainRemi is incredibly sweet and gentle. She does have some cloudiness in her eyes, but she navigates her surroundings well, and her foster mom does not believe she is fully blind. Remi is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccines, so shes ready for her forever family. She has a great appetite (she loves mealtime!) and is making steady progress with house training. She is crate trained, sleeps peacefully through the night in her own bed, and has a calm, quiet natureshe rarely barks. She gets along wonderfully with other dogs and has even done well with a rabbit in her foster home, showing her gentle and easygoing temperament. Remi also enjoys cuddling and being close to her people, making her the perfect little companion. Remi is truly a hidden gema sweet, loving soul just waiting for the right family to see how special she is. Please follow us on social media for the most up to date photos and information. Story
For inquiries email lynne@compactcaninerescue.org Fee: $400 Location: Suffolk, VA Update 5/25/2025:Chester remains happy and is ready for adoption Foster mom says, he is absolutely the easiest boy I have fostered. Hes happy and he loves everyone! He is a joy!   Meet Chester! He is a sweet senior poodle (mix) from the Chesapeake Animal Shelter. He is a sweet little old man looking for a warm lap and all the love he can handle! He was originally in a shelter and adopted to a family but ended up as a stray again. Now he is safe in our rescue and looking for a place to retire. He will need to see an eye specialist and the primary vet then he will be available for adoption. He is vision impaired but he doesnt let that get him down. He is a go with the flow kind of dude! Chester had his dental Monday, May 18th and came through with flying colors. Foster mom said he slept through the night, got up and took his meds like a champ then settled back down for a post op senior snooze! Chester is a very spry little man. What he lacks in vision he gained in heart. He is very loving. His tail wags all the time. Now that his dental is completed and his mouth is feeling so much better, he is loving life. He's just the perfect boy according to foster mom! Chester does have a low functioning thyroid. He is currently on medication for this and will need to remain on it for life. The medication costs about $3 a month from Chewy. He is also on eye drops for a few weeks. He will return to the eye specialist to see if he will need them forever. Chester is the victim of neglect. If someone would have taken him to the vet as a puppy, he most likely would not be blind. The eye specialist said her guess would be he had distemper as a puppy which can cause blindness. Routine vaccines can prevent so many unnecessary issues in dog. Please use this example as a reminder to vaccinate, spay/neuter, microchip, and test for heartworm disease. Simple testing and routine vet care can keep your dog healthy and happy for years to come. Please follow us on social media for the most up to date photos and information. Story
Alexandra is an adorable doodle mix whose world was turned upside down when she was surrendered to a shelter in San Juan, Puerto Rico. We don’t know why she lost her home, but we do know she deserves another chance. This sweet girl is everything you’d hope for in a companion. She’s playful, friendly, social, and loves both kids and other dogs. As with many doodle and poodle mixes, we’d recommend a slow, supervised introduction to cats and other small pets. Alexandra is estimated to be 1 to 2 years old and weighs about 20 pounds. She is scheduled to arrive in Virginia in early August, so now is the perfect time to apply if you’d like to meet her! Her current kennel mate is Frank, an adorable one eyed pug, and just next door is Momma Carlota, watching and waiting. We were fortunate enough to find loving homes for all of Carlota’s puppies back in February, but sweet Carlota is still waiting for her own chance. There are so many wonderful dogs like Alexandra who are simply waiting for someone to say “yes.” Every adoption opens a space for another deserving dog to be rescued from an overcrowded shelter. Please help us get these amazing dogs out of the shelter in Puerto Rico by sharing Alexandra’s story. We hope she’ll be the first to find her forever family, and with your help, she just might be. 1 to 2 years old Approximately 20 pounds Friendly and social Great with kids Loves other dogs Arriving in Virginia in early August Apply today and give Alexandra the fresh start she’s been waiting for. ❤️ Dog Adoption Application https://caribbeanpaws.rescuegroups.org/forms/form?formid=7208Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.
