Meet Theo!
A devoted seven-and-a-half-year-old Morkie (Maltese/Yorkshire Terrier mix) currently living in Bay Shore, NY, whose creamy tan coat and expressive eyes hold a world of loyalty, snuggles, and spirited charm.
Once he bonds with you, and that bond runs deep, he becomes a constant shadow! Following you from room to room and curling up right beside you any chance he gets. Cuddling is his love language, and nothing makes him happier than being close to the person he trusts. He’s a master of “sit,” “down,” “leave it,” “paw,” and even “high five,” bringing his playful charm into everyday moments. Theo is full of quirks that’ll keep you smiling. He’s got a passion for fetch, enjoys tug-of-war like it’s an Olympic sport, and adores long walks and fun romps through the living room!
But Theo’s story isn’t just about his sweet snuggles and endearing quirks, it’s also about understanding. Theo thrives in predictable routines and quiet environments, but he does have some behavioral needs that call for an experienced, patient caregiver. He’s reactive, especially toward large dogs, pugs, bulldogs, unfamiliar men (particularly in uniforms), and at times, children. That reactivity has escalated to nipping, both people and other dogs, primarily in situations involving high arousal or stress. These moments are not random, but they require a guardian who can manage them calmly and consistently.
Theo has worked with professional trainers, and while he’s made progress, his reactivity is considered long-term and needs ongoing support through positive reinforcement and a stable, adult-only home. He cannot live with cats or young children and is not suited to busy households with frequent visitors. However, he may be able to coexist with another dog after very slow, structured introductions. He’s been known to play and even form bonds with a few select canine pals.
