Story
Meet Poppy!   Poppy is the sweetest little lap dog once she warms up to you. Released from a commercial breeder, she’s happily embracing retirement and discovering just how wonderful life as a beloved family pet can be. At only 1.5 years old and 14 lbs, she’s finally learning how to be a dog! A DNA test showed her to be Yorkie, Mini Aussie, and several other breeds.   Poppy is kennel trained and loves carrying all of her favorite toys into her kennel with her. While she’s still a little cautious around new people and unfamiliar situations, she’s making wonderful progress and just needs a patient family to help her continue building confidence.   She is doing an excellent job with potty training and has had no accidents in her kennel or in the house when taken outside regularly. She happily sleeps through the night and loves having access to a securely fenced backyard where she can enjoy her daily zoomies. Walking on a leash is still a new adventure for her, but with a little practice, encouragement, and perhaps another small dog to follow, she’ll catch on quickly.   Poppy would do best in a home with smaller dogs, as large dogs can be intimidating for her. She can also be protective of her people. During her adjustment period, she may bark at or act tough toward unfamiliar people, just as many little dogs do. She might even attempt to herd them. With patience, consistency, and understanding during her honeymoon phase, she’ll continue to blossom.   Because of her shy and fearful nature, Poppy is looking for a quiet home without children. A physical fenced yard is required. When life gets a little busy, she’s perfectly content relaxing in her kennel and watching the world go by. We had her groomed and she will need it again every so often.   Poppy is spayed, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and ready to find the forever family she’s always deserved. Her adoption donation fee is $425. Please apply directly on our website in the dropdown menu at:  https://havenanimalrescuenebraska.org PLEASE SUBMIT AN APPLICATION AT: https://havenanimalrescuenebraska.org/adoption-application We do not have a facility. All of our animals are in volunteer foster homes. Once an application is pre-approved (contingent upon a home check) we will contact applicants that are a good match and set up a time for a meet. At that time we are happy to answer all of your questions. No inquiries prior to that please. All of our animals are spayed/neutered, examined by a vet, up-to-date on vaccinations, on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchipped. We adopt our animals as strictly inside companion pets. We will do a veterinarian reference check and a home safety check. We are located in Omaha, NE and we do not ship our animals. We are all volunteers so please be patient with us. Our requested adoption fees help go towards medical expenses, food, transportation, toys, and other supplies for our animals. Story
Ricky Male DOB 7/1/21 Approx 10 lbs Neutered Meet Ricky – A Loyal Little Heart Ready to Learn What Love Means 🐾 Ricky is a 4-year-old Maltese–Yorkie mix with a gentle soul and so much love waiting to bloom. He came into rescue from a hoarding situation, and while his early life didn’t give him the stability every dog deserves, Ricky is now discovering what it means to be part of a caring family. In his foster home, Ricky is learning that he is safe and that the people around him will be there for him every day. His wonderful foster family is patiently showing him that visitors are kind, that gentle hands bring comfort, and that love can be a consistent and reliable part of life. Each day he grows a little braver. When Ricky feels secure with his people, his true personality shines through. He becomes an incredibly devoted and affectionate companion who forms deep bonds with those he trusts. Ricky loves being close to his family and takes his role very seriously. Because Ricky is still adjusting to the world, he would do best in a mature home without small children. Quick movements and unexpected activity can still startle him, so a calm, low-traffic household will help him continue to build confidence and feel safe. Ricky is doing well living with the other dogs in his foster home and is learning a lot from them. He enjoys running around the fenced yard and loves keeping an eye on the neighborhood. If another dog passes by, Ricky is happy to bark and let everyone know he’s on watch and doing his part to keep his family safe! He also takes cues well from the larger dogs in the home, which helps him feel more comfortable. Ricky is currently working on potty training. Because he’s still learning and can get very excited, he may occasionally have accidents. With patience, routine, encouragement, and medication we hope he will continue to improve as he settles into a stable home environment. Ricky is looking for a patient, loving family who will give him the time he needs to fully blossom. In return, you’ll gain a loyal little companion whose devotion will be truly special. If you’re ready to help a deserving dog discover the joy of a safe and loving forever home, Ricky might just be the perfect addition to your family. The Adoption Fee (Tax Deductible Donation) is $200. If you are interested please fill out an application at www.nalarescue.org. Please note a Vet Check and Home Inspection are part of the application process. NALA Rescue is a home-based foster rescue and does not have a facility.
