Story
Oakley, affectionately known as 'Dottie girl ' by her foster family, has such a sweet, lovable, big personality and is very eager to please!  This Pit/Mountain Curr mix is a total Phoenix that has risen from the fires of neglect, abandonment and even successfully raised her litter of puppies in the woods for the first 10 weeks of life. They were all successfully adopted in the Fall and living wonderful lives of love and commitment from their families.  Oakley is the perfect girl that lives with anyone and everyone that comes her way.  She embraces all people and dogs and she just lives her life with resilience and tolerance.  This girl might not be a Golden Retriever in looks but she surpasses any of the commonly accepted breeds that everyone gravitates to and wants to adopt.  Take her Pit mix package look away and please consider only her SOUL?  Trust us, you will not want to look elsewhere for the most perfect and beautiful temperamented dog.  Oakley sits on command and walks nicely on a leash.  When she meets new people, she is so very social and she embraces all other dogs, adults and children alike.  This girl loves to play dress up in cozy sweaters and loves a good chew toy. HOW FUN!???? RIGHT?  If you have children she is right there to engage and play with them and their fantasies.  This Momma dog is just a young 2yr old, 40lb sweetheart who longs to be an inside dog that can cuddle up next to you on the couch and help you melt the life challenges away.   Oakley had outsmarted many rescuers for months running around the county with her litter of puppies being. When she gave in we realized what a remarkable Mom she was and the beauty of her puppies.  All of her puppies have been adopted, but now Oakley is raising her heart and hand to say…. Pick Me Too!  She deserves a remarkable future and life because she will provide the amazing dog companion to someone that can ever be imagined.  Forget the wrapper on the package and consider the heart please…You won’t regret living a life with Oakley. Story
Vigro is a 1-year-old, 59-pound young dog with a lot of potential and a need for an experienced, patient adopter who can help guide him through big feelings and overstimulation. He is affectionate, responsive, and capable of lovely manners when given structure, but he struggles when environments become too busy or stressful. Vigro is excited when approached in the kennel but leashes and harnesses easily and enjoys being handled. He hops right into the car without hesitation and allows harnessing calmly inside. He may whine briefly at the start of a car ride, then settles and lays down. He is eager to get moving and curious about his surroundings. On leash in calmer environments, Vigro walks very nicely and is often loose-leash the majority of the time. He shows interest in things like squirrels but is easy to redirect. He responds well to verbal cues and correction; when he does jump up for attention, a simple verbal “no” is effective, and he adjusts quickly. He enjoys affection and will sit close, leaning in for pets. Vigro can become overwhelmed as stimulation increases. In busy or public settings, he shows signs of stress and uncertainty and may seek reassurance by staying close to his handler or tucking behind their legs when unfamiliar people approach. Because of this, he is not a good candidate for frequent public outings and would do best in a quieter, more predictable environment. When overstimulated, Vigro may resort to destructive behaviors, such as chewing leashes, and he will need an adopter who is prepared to manage this safely while helping him learn appropriate coping skills. He does recover well, returns to the kennel easily, and shows an ability to reset once the environment calms. Vigro needs an experienced adopter who understands young, overstimulated dogs and can provide clear boundaries, consistency, and structured outlets for both mental and physical energy. With the right guidance, patience, and calm leadership, Vigro has the capacity to develop into a well-mannered, loyal companion who thrives in a stable home environment. Vigro has had positive experiences with other dogs. As always, we strongly recommend that resident dogs meet any new potential canine family members. If bringing a resident dog for a dog to dog test, please bring proof of Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella vaccines. To meet your new pet, come to Guilford County Animal Services between 12 and 4 any day except Tuesday!
