Story
Meet Kookie!
Kookie is a beautiful 1.5-year-old Great Pyrenees/Newfoundland mix with a big heart to match her big, fluffy body. At around 80 pounds, she is every bit the gentle giant and is happiest when she gets to be near the people she loves.
This sweet girl is affectionate, loyal, and snuggly. She enjoys spending time with her people, going for walks, playing in short bursts, and soaking up attention. Kookie walks nicely on leash when she is relaxed, takes treats gently, and has been described by her foster home as a “sweet snuggle bug.” She also has an adorable habit of jumping up for hugs, which may have been something she learned in her previous home.
Kookie has many of the wonderful traits people love about guardian breeds. She is devoted, people-oriented, watchful, and protective of the people she bonds with. Because of this, she will do best with an adopter who appreciates large guardian-type dogs and can give her calm leadership, consistency, and time to settle into her new home.
Kookie is mostly potty trained, but her adopter should be prepared to watch for her cues as she adjusts to a new routine. She is not a huge fan of the crate, but she can be encouraged with treats. She would likely prefer a home where she can be close to her people and not left alone for long stretches right away.
Kookie has been wonderful with people once she has a little time to warm up. She may bark when someone new enters the room, but with patience and space, she is able to make friends. She has also done well with teens and visitors coming and going in her foster home.
Kookie is looking for a home that can help her feel safe, loved, and understood. This big, beautiful girl has so much love to give, and with a patient adopter who appreciates her loyal guardian heart, Kookie is going to make an amazing companion.
