Story
Matty is ready for retirement! This adorable fellow joined our rescue after his owner passed away. He’s a full-bred Papillon, but we think there must be some teddy bear in there somewhere! He is 16 years old, but he doesn’t look a day over 12. Matty is a very sweet boy who has been a champ adapting to life at our rescue and retirement home. He gets along well with other dogs and spends most of his day curled up in beds, peacefully sleeping. Medically, our initial focus was on clearing up some skin issues and lowering his liver values. When he arrived, he was very itchy from past flea allergies and was given an allergy injection and an antibiotic for relief. His skin is in much better shape. His liver values have also regulated. Matty has a grade 4 heart murmur and was diagnosed with Stage B1 Mitral Valve Disease. This stage means he is not in heart failure, and does not currently require medication for this. We recommend regular echocardiograms to monitor for progression. The cardiologist also reported that Matty has "atrial premature complexes with occasional supraventricular tachycardia." This essentially means he has some heartbeat irregularities. He recently started a medication to help with his heart arrhythmia and should be checked at each vet visit. He has a mature cataract in his left eye, an immature cataract in his right eye, and several large lipomas around his groin. But his teeth look pretty good for a dog his age! Matty has recently had full blood work. He is also neutered and up-to-date on vaccines. To apply to adopt Matty, please fill out an application at vintagepetrescue.org/adopt

Meet Ellie, the most adorable  scruffy little girl! Ellie is a precious 2-year-old, 12-pound Papillion / Poodle / Yorkie mix. Whatever her breed combination, the result is one precious pup who checks every box on a companion "wish list." Ellie has a cuddle-soft, sparkling glacier white coat with high-gloss black patches that shine like silk. Her huge, dark chestnut eyes truly sparkle when she sees you. She is incredibly affectionate and will happily let you pet her all day. Ellie is also wonderful with other dogs of all sizes and is even fine with cats. She loves to play, run, and chase toys with her doggie buddies. Not only is she adorable, but Ellie is also very smart. She is an eager learner who already knows commands like "sit" and "wait" for her food and treats. She is social enough to join you for errands or a trip to the park, and at the end of the day, she loves nothing more than snuggling up close to you before heading to her crate or you side of the bed for bedtime. Our director feels the perfect home for Ellie would be with a single person, an active retired couple, or any owner who would enjoy a loyal, and smart companion. A family who wants to spend time with her and make her a true part of the family. Ellie is currently with her foster family in Kentucky and will arrive in the New England area via pet transport once adopted. Her adoption fee is $875. She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and current on all preventatives. If you are interested in Ellie, the first step is to submit an adoption application.
